Amsterdam’s killer sneak spot Patta has created a musical pack with Converse and local trio Le Le. It’s been a long time between drinks for corduroy but here we see it resplendent in burgundy splashed across the Pro Leather 76 model, complete with a grey quilted lining. If that’s too risque, treat yourself to the color flip in a Chuck Taylor Hi! The music connection is 12 inches of Le Le, with two tracks We Are Lay Lay and Slotmachine created for the project... Apparently it’s someplace between disco, electro and ganster rap, so take your pick! Launching late September at select European retailers. http://www.teampatta.nl/

More leaked music from Jay-Z. By September 11th will there be anything new to hear off his album The Blueprint 3? This track was produced by Kanye West, who is also featured on the track. It's a short track, but I guess he only needed two and a half minutes to get his point across. Here it is: "Hate".

eyeReview: Trey Songz "Ready"

If you happened to not know that Trey Songz's new album Ready is now available on iTunes and in stores tomorrow, you must not have Twitter! Trey has been promoting his album hard body on Twitter and the fans love it. The album has 17 tracks and features "Successful" with Drake, "LOL :)" ft. SouljaboyTelleEm and Gucci Mane, "I Need A Girl", and a couple of tracks off of his Anticipation mixtape ("Yo Side of the Bed" and "I Invented Sex ft. Drake").

I was surprised that he actually put tracks from his mixtape on the album, but hey! For me the album wasn't as great that I expected it to be. I mean it's not bad at all, but I just think expected it to be this phenomenal collection of music from the way people were talking. From the start of the album on the "Panty Droppin" intro, I immediately thought of R. Kelly. That comparison will always be there no matter what. He sounds like him and it's clear that they are both two sexual beings and choose to show that in their music.

The sound on the album did remain consistent on the album, as far as his tonality and musicality goes. It's a very R&B Trey album to say the least, and I would say that it's for more of a female audience, but I wouldn't mind seeing the fellas using the album to get in "the mood". My favorite tracks would have to be "Jupiter Love", "Black Roses" which has a more edgy sound, and "Love Lost" which comes off sounding like Michael Jackson's "Human Nature" as far as the instrumental goes.

Let's make it clear, I'm not hating on the album, I'm just saying that six of the tracks were released/leaked before the album actually came out and two are interludes which leaves us with nine "new" songs to listen to. That isn't bad at all, but I'm just saying LOL. I would give the album a B or 4/5 stars, see it's not that bad.

Well happy listening, go cop that Trey Songz "Ready" album like right now! Yea that's my promo right there. Here's some of his very own promotion via his Twitter page:

Ode to the Nice Guys

Ode to the Nice Guys
This is a tribute to the nice guys. The nice guys that finish last, that never become more than friends, that endure hours of whining and bitching about what assholes guys are, while disproving the very point. This is dedicated to those guys who always provide a shoulder to lean on but restrain themselves to tentative hugs, those guys who hold open doors and give reassuring pats on the back and sit patiently outside the changing room at department stores. This is in honor of the guys that obligingly reiterate how cute/beautiful/smart/funny/sexy their female friends are at the appropriate moment, because they know most girls need that litany of support. This is in honor of the guys with open minds, with laid-back attitudes, with honest concern. This is in honor of the guys who respect a girl’s every facet, from her privacy to her theology to her clothing style.

This is for the guys who escort their drunk, bewildered female friends back from parties and never take advantage once they’re at her door, for the guys who accompany girls to bars as buffers against the rest of the creepy male population, for the guys who know a girl is fishing for compliments but give them out anyway, for the guys who always play by the rules in a game where the rules favor cheaters, for the guys who are accredited as boyfriend material but somehow don’t end up being boyfriends, for all the nice guys who are overlooked, underestimated, and unappreciated, for all the nice guys who are manipulated, misled, and unjustly abandoned, this is for you.

This is for that time she left 40 urgent messages on your cell phone, and when you called her back, she spent three hours painstakingly dissecting two sentences her boyfriend said to her over dinner. And even though you thought her boyfriend was a chump and a jerk, you assured her that it was all ok and she shouldn’t worry about it. This is for that time she interrupted the best killing spree you’d ever orchestrated in GTA3 to rant about a rumor that romantically linked her and the guy she thinks is the most repulsive person in the world. And even though you thought it was immature and you had nothing against the guy, you paused the game for two hours and helped her concoct a counter-rumor to spread around the floor. This is also for that time she didn’t have a date, so after numerous vows that there was nothing “serious” between the two of you, she dragged you to a party where you knew nobody, the beer was awful, and she flirted shamelessly with you, justifying each fit of reckless teasing by announcing to everyone: “oh, but we’re just friends!” And even though you were invited purely as a symbolic warm body for her ego, you went anyways. Because you’re nice like that.

The nice guys don’t often get credit where credit is due. And perhaps more disturbing, the nice guys don’t seem to get laid as often as they should. And I wish I could logically explain this trend, but I can’t. From what I have observed on campus and what I have learned from talking to friends at other schools and in the workplace, the only conclusion I can form is that many girls are just illogical, manipulative bitches. Many of them claim they just want to date a nice guy, but when presented with such a specimen, they say irrational, confusing things such as “oh, he’s too nice to date” or “he would be a good boyfriend but he’s not for me” or “he already puts up with so much from me, I couldn’t possibly ask him out!” or the most frustrating of all: “no, it would ruin our friendship.” Yet, they continue to lament the lack of datable men in the world, and they expect their too-nice-to-date male friends to sympathize and apologize for the men that are jerks. Sorry, guys, girls like that are beyond my ability to fathom. I can’t figure out why the connection breaks down between what they say (I want a nice guy!) and what they do (I’m going to sleep with this complete ass now!). But one thing I can do, is say that the nice-guy-finishes-last phenomenon doesn’t last forever. There are definitely many girls who grow out of that train of thought and realize they should be dating the nice guys, not taking them for granted. The tricky part is finding those girls, and even trickier, finding the ones that are single.

So, until those girls are found, I propose a toast to all the nice guys. You know who you are, and I know you’re sick of hearing yourself described as ubiquitously nice. But the truth of the matter is, the world needs your patience in the department store, your holding open of doors, your party escorting services, your propensity to be a sucker for a pretty smile. For all the crazy, inane, absurd things you tolerate, for all the situations where you are the faceless, nameless hero, my accolades, my acknowledgement, and my gratitude go out to you. You do have credibility in this society, and your well deserved vindication is coming.

eyeWatch: Drake ft. Trey Songz "Successful"

Here is the official music video for Drake and Trey Songz's "Successful", directed by Jake Davis. The song is featured on Trey Songz new album "READY", which is in stores now. The song is also featured on Drake's "So Far Gone" mixtape available now for free download, the EP version will be sold in stores September 15th, 2009.

The video was shot in Toronto, Canada and is just as laid back as the song. It is definitely an upgrade from the "Best I Ever Had" video. For the most part the video is fairly dark and mostly uses the city lights as the backdrop. At the end of the video there's a quote from President Obama:
"Making your mark on the world is hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it. But it's not. It takes patience, it takes commitment, and it comes with plenty of failure along the way. The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won't. it's whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere."

Hugo by Hugo Boss Spring 2010

Creative Director Bruno Pieters’ latest outing for Hugo by Hugo Boss is inspired by the work of German artist Wolfgang Uhlig. Taking to a sleek predominantly black and white color palette, Pieters’ collection is delightful battle between tradition and modern aspirations.

The traditional suit is at the collection’s core acting as nature, while Pieters’ methods of design bring in the architectural quality. The suit undergoes a modern transformation losing its lapels and gaining small slits where the lapel would typically break.

Horizontal lines, faint and obvious create a blinds effect across clean pieces encompassing everything from the suiting to footwear. Gold scale encrusted blazers and coats add a dimension that hints at Hugo moving further in the future. However, with great restraint and only a hint, the collection remains grounded, boding well not only for Bruno Pieters, but his successful reincarnation of the Hugo line as a valued asset to the ongoing direction of menswear.

What do you think of this line? For me the shorts are a little too short and the pants need about two inches in seam allowance. Other than that, eyeLike it!

eye'm Thirsty Toast to Repost: Talented Genius

Here's is this week's "Toast to Repost", drink up!
Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see. - Arthur Schopenhauer

Talent is defined as "a special natural ability". By natural, I guess that would mean that it is something one was born with or comes to one with minimal effort. This makes Arthur Schopenhauer's quote so much more clear if you didn't understand it the first time around (if you didn't maybe you're talented at over analysing lol). But seriously, I think that everyone posses a talent, even if you only have the ability to blow a bubble bigger than your head. Some people try to deny their talents or take them for granted, but there is no reason to be shameful of your gifts. I'm not saying to go out and flaunt as if what you can do is the best thing in the world, but take pride in what you can do, just don't indulge in it.

Genius is "an exceptional natural capacity of intellect", which hits that target that not everyone can see. That's amazing. I'm no genius, but I think that those who are the ones treated differently in the world and are taken for granted. They are the outcasts, the ones who arrive to class early and leave late. The ones who choose the hardest topics to write a paper on and ace it! Now if that's not a gift I don't know what is. It's crazy how people who are talented can tease a genius and not realize how it affects the both of them. If you tease someone because of their abilities, you're taking energy out of what you could be putting into your talent and wasting it on being someone you shouldn't be. This leads those "geniuses" to not want to be who they really are.

Remember, "Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see." So don't always aim for the bullseye, dare to be different, and don't waste your talent, or ability to learn. Put the gifts God has given you into good use, or else you just might lose out on something special.

What are your talents? Are you a genius? Share your story with a comment =)

eyePoll: Days of Our Lives

When I asked "When were the best years of your life?", here were the responses:

38% of you said "High School"
50% of you said "College"

12% of you said "Middle School"
0% of you said "Anytime I wasn't in school"

This goes to show you that having an education isn't the worst thing that can happen to you. In all actuality, we this is where we make our first best friend, have our first kiss, go to our first dance, etc.

College is one of the best experiences that I have ever had in my life. I met people that I know I will be friends with forever. I grew as an individual and I think it's safe to say that I found myself. If you're not sure about going away to school, I would suggest it, it's a wonderful experience.

eyeLove: Josh Olins Photography

I stumbled upon this great pictures and thought to myself, whoever the photographer is must be fab!And that photographer just happened to be Josh Olins. Open up the just about any magazine known for its cool perspective and you will find his work. Dazed, V, Love, Numero - you name them, he’s in them and with a resume as illustrious as his it’s easy to see why he’s one of the most coveted photographers working right now. Christopher Michael sits down with Josh to discuss his process, what influences his work and of course those incredible group shots.

CM: UK born, NY based (sometimes) where do you attribute the greatest geographical source of your ideas to come from?

Olins: UK based mostly but NYC frequently. I guess as with anyone inspiration can come at home or abroad. NY can be like a movie for me which of course I find inspiring and I guess you get so used to what’s on your doorstep sometimes that you need to step away from it to seek something new and exciting. My ideas are split between the two occasionally coming somewhere at 30,000 ft whilst traveling from A - B but I see things everyday that give me ideas.

5 Ways to Build a Wonderful Life

1. Live Below Your Means

There will always be temptation to forsake the future for immediate gratification. We all want to buy that new piece of technology, treat ourselves to an expensive night on the town, or take out a loan for the flashy car we can’t afford. It might feel great at the time but rash spending hurts a lot later on.

Enjoy life’s simple pleasures and save as much as you can. Expensive things don’t create lasting happiness and security. Careful spending will bring you greater leisure and enjoyment in the long run.

2. Put Your Money to Work

Saving is great, but to make the most of your money you need to put it to work. Good investments can be the difference between retiring in your 40’s or in your 60’s.

A post today at The Simple Dollar really got me thinking. According to Trent’s projections, if a person in their early 20’s invests 20% of their income in an S&P index fund, the interest they earn will equal their current salary when they reach their early 40’s. They could retire without a drop in income!

Wise investing is the surest path to financial independence and it’s something everyone can work on. It’s definitely an area I’ll be devoting more attention to in my personal life and on this blog.

3. Educate Yourself

To be happy we need continuous growth. The best way to grow is life long education. This doesn’t mean you need to pursue a doctorate or spend 2 hours reading every day. Self education can be anything that takes you out of your comfort zone. The important part is keeping an open mind and searching for fresh ideas and perspectives.

Education builds over time. It might feel like the bits of wisdom you acquire don’t mean much, but over the years they add up to form a wiser, kinder, more interesting person.

4. Develop Lasting Personal Relationships

Suppose you had everything you wanted. Would you be happy without anyone to share it with? The personal relationships we develop with friends and family members are the greatest source of happiness in our lives. Don’t forget about them.

Taking the time to cultivate and enjoy personal relationships is essential to long term happiness. Without the people you care about you’ll probably be miserable, no matter how successful you become.

5. Work Towards a Dream You’re Passionate About

Even if your life isn’t perfect, you can always build towards a goal you’re passionate about. If you aren’t building towards something, you’re probably stagnating. When this happens to me I start to feel like a victim trapped by my own life. The best way to reverse this is working towards a goal.

We can’t control everything about our lives, but working towards a goal gives us something positive to focus on and lays the foundation for future success. No matter what your passion is, get out there and start doing something. As Lao Tzu said, even a journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step.

With that said, these five things, I'm sure we would all live a fabulous life. There's so much to live for and a lot of times people miss out because they're too focused on spending their money on things they don't need instead of saving. We burn bridges over the smallest things instead of trying to make valuable relationships work out. We often do things that make other people happy instead of ourselves. Follow these things and your life will be that much closer to being wonderful!

[B]illboard's Woman of the Year 2009

Yes, Beyoncé has officially put the "B" in Billboard. Billboard announced today (Aug. 25) that Beyoncé will be accepting its Woman Of The Year Award at the 2009 Billboard Women In Music Event, taking place on Oct. 2 in New York City.

The honor, given to a female recording artist that has inspired the music business with her success, leadership and new ideas, will be awarded to the singer for her accomplishments over the past 12 months.

In the last year, Beyoncé kicked off her world tour "I Am..." in support of her third solo album "I Am...Sasha Fierce," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in November and features the hit singles "If I Were A Boy," "Single Ladies," "Halo," "Ego" and "Sweet Dreams."

The tour also showcased Beyoncé's philanthropic side as she gave 2,500 tickets to families affected by the auto industry crisis in Detroit and joined forces with General Mills Hamburger Helper and Feeding America to deliver 3.5 million meals to local food banks.

"Beyoncé is a multi-platinum artist and a multi-talented woman who clearly embodies the qualities of excellence and achievement that the Billboard Woman Of The Year Award was created to honor," said Bill Werde, Billboard's Editorial Director, about Beyoncé, who is the only performer in the 51-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 to top the chart for 10 weeks or more with a group and as a solo artist. "She has not only influenced pop culture with her hit songs and signature dance moves, but has inspired women everywhere with her unique style, business savvy and dedication to charitable causes."

The Billboard Women in Music Event celebrates the most powerful and talented women in the music business and is also held in conjunction with the Women In Music Power Players List issue, which recognizes the top female music executives who are leading the industry with their artistic and business vision.
