eyeWatch: Haymaker

If you could name any unsigned artist that knows how to deliver, Denzil Porter should be mentioned. And with his latest video for the single, "Haymaker", there's no doubt that he's a heavyweight contender in the music industry.
Haymaker, literally meaning a powerful punch thrown to knock out an opponent, is a song Denzil and Connie used to show off their metaphorical skills when making punch line records. By throwing punch lines back to back while creating an undeniable flow of word play at the same time, "Haymaker" shows off the lyrical side of both artists.

"Once Connie and I heard the beat," Denzil says, "We started writing. It was automatic, we knew what we had to do, create a song, bar for bar like a boxing match". "Haymaker" has a very unique format. It is designed for listeners who enjoy complex word play and can handle a few hooks and jabs.
If you've never been a fan or heard of Denzil, this single will be the reason you become one. The video was directed By Denzil Porter & Jaison Williams; who directed many of Denzil's videos. Be sure to watch, comment and share Happy watching!

On the Plains w/Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde

Denzil Porter, who's known for his punchlines, flow, delivery and visual aids, adds two more music videos to his gallery. He's a true artist and if nothing else, he knows how to keep his fans interested and entertained.

Today, we bring you his two latest videos for his singles, "On the Plains" and "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde". If you know Denzil, or his music, you should know that he reps the Bronx/While Plains Rd. hard! "On the Plains" is exactly what it says it is. The video depicts individuals embodying the lyrics of Denzil Porter, as they can all relate to being "on the plains". This video was directed by Jaison Williams, who also directed D.P.'s video for "The Reasons."

The second video we're bringing to you is his newest, "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde"; which was inspired by Robert Stevenson's iconic novel released in 1886. The imagery in the video displays the split personalities of D.P. very well, and we can thank no other than Ulysses Adams for his direction on the video. You'll get a sense of both sides of Denzil Porter; the conservative/mysterious side, and the beast! We hope you enjoy the videos and look our for more from D.P. as he gears up to release his new project! Happy watching (Warning: Foul language, listen at your own discretion).

Listen to Your "Intuition"

Young Flame is no stranger to elleELLEeye, but if you don't know who he is let us remind you. Young Flame is a rapper straight out of the Bronx. He's lyrical and a great artist who even performed at our first event, The Sweet Sound of Hip-Hop. Today he is dropping his new single, "Intuition", which is more of a serious track, for the sake of sending an important message. We should always strive to spread awareness on HIV/AIDS, which is a prominent issue going on in the African-American, Hip-Hop community. This needed to be brought to the light and Young Flame does just that with this song, so let's get right into it. Happy listening!

Download NOW

The song “Intuition” is so important to the young African American community because most rap music glorifies going out to the club, drinking and meeting beautiful girls to ultimately take home and have sex with. No one talks about the dangers of living this lifestyle. According to The Department of Health, in New York City alone, over 3,000 people were diagnosed with HIV in 2008. As of 2008, in New York City there were over 105,000 people currently living with HIV and during 2008, almost 2,000 people died from the virus in New York City. The number of African Americans between the ages of 20-29 living in New York City that have been newly diagnosed with HIV has increased from about 400 in 2007 to over 500 in 2008.

In an interview, Young Flame stated that, “One form of contraception that people don’t speak about is Communication. If you listen to the song, you will understand that if they had only communicated in the beginning, it would have never ended how it did.” Had the young woman only followed her intuition when she first started feeling like her boyfriend was being dishonest with her, spoke to him about it and gotten tested, she would have never went out and had sex with another man who infected her with the HIV that she then passed onto her child and boyfriend who then passed it onto the other female he met in the club who can then pass it onto someone else. It becomes a continuous cycle (Young Flame "Intuition" press release).

Having sex doesn't make you cool. Here are some ways to protect yourself:

-Get yourself tested
-Practice safe sex (Birth control doesn't protect you from STDs)
-Practice celibacy
-Practice abstinence

The Other Side of Denzil Porter

The summer's heating up, and so is Young Flame with the release of his new mixtape Live From the Other Side. He's the founder of Wreckhouse Entertainment and has been making moves that are more than just musical. Young Flame has already created some memorable moments for himself by opening for distinguished artists such as Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, and as well as performing alongside Macka Diamond. His Internet buzz is only adding to his current and upcoming success as he's been on an abundant number of blogs/websites (including elleELLEeye); his appearance on worldstarhiphop.com received over 51,000 views and 600 comments. It's apparent that people are interested. Why? Take a listen to his freestyle on Usher's "Little Freak"...
Listen at you own discretion; foul language:

I once said “When I was told that I should put this video by Bronx rapper, Young Flame, on my blog; and I must admit I was skeptical. I thought that he would just be one of the typical guys out there trying to rap and had no potential at all, but when I took a look at the video (Escape to Happiness), it grabbed my attention.” I haven't heard the new mixtape yet, but I'm sure he won't disappoint. Flame is on the money when it comes to making a good song and he has the freestyles on deck as well.

Young Flame’s music can be described as very energetic; as he has upbeat to mid-tempo songs, as well as slow jams. He does it all. He has a unique voice and a flow that is full of charisma. You can expect the flames from Live from the Other Side after the fireworks on July 5th. Also, look out for Young Flame on the “Unsigned 95” tour later this year. Check out a video interview of Young Flame discussing the mixtape Live From the Other Side. Happy watching!

eyeLike: Artist Spotlight Young Flame

When I was told that I should put this video by Bronx rapper, Young Flame, on my blog I must admit I was skeptical. I thought that he would just be one of the typical guys out there trying to rap and had no potential at all, but when I took a look at the video below (Escape to Happiness), it grabbed my attention.

Young Flame is rapper and entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of WreckHouse Studio, which grew off of the profits of a successful house party. Young Flame's sound on this track "Escape to Happiness" featuring EL-P is different -- it reminds me of a mix between Lupe and Talib Kweli. The track has a real feel good sound to it and makes you want to "run away" from any problems that might be going on in your life. If he keeps making music like this, I'm sure his day in the industry will come! I look forward to hearing more, but for now make sure you check out the video below, Happy Watching!

You can hear more or contact Young Flame via YouTube, Twitter and Myspace. What do you think of his video...Do you like it or love it?
