eyeWatch: Came Along (Way)

Being the new kid on the block is no easy job. You need to learn the territory you're about to approach, be careful of who you interact with, but most importantly, you need to make your mark hard enough for it to leave an impact. I've learned that first hand just by starting up elleELLEeye, but apparently, Queens native rapper, Eric Sosa has learned the tricks of the trade as well. Excuse my grammar, but he's "Came Along (Way)".

First introduced to us on Twitter, then performing at our Sweet Sound of Hip-Hop event last year, Eric is on the move! He's released his second video for "Came Along Way" off of his mixtape Rhyme & Noodles: NO ARTIFICIAL Flavoring Vol. 2. If that wasn't enough to keep the fans entertained, his first single for "One You" featuring Rocki Evans is now available on iTunes for the purchase of $.99.

The "Came Along (Way)" video was directed by James Calinda and takes us through Sos' journey thus far. Baby photos, performance footage, and a walk down memory lane are all you can expect to see as the video captures moments near and dear to Sos and his career.

We're sure the journey hasn't been easy, but with his persistence, he'll make it in no time. Take a look at the video below and let us know what you think by commenting! P.S. Don't miss Sos getting a dub at our "Midnight Madness" event when we took over SUNY Oneonta...(the 3:05 mark). Happy watching!

eyeWatch: Haymaker

If you could name any unsigned artist that knows how to deliver, Denzil Porter should be mentioned. And with his latest video for the single, "Haymaker", there's no doubt that he's a heavyweight contender in the music industry.
Haymaker, literally meaning a powerful punch thrown to knock out an opponent, is a song Denzil and Connie used to show off their metaphorical skills when making punch line records. By throwing punch lines back to back while creating an undeniable flow of word play at the same time, "Haymaker" shows off the lyrical side of both artists.

"Once Connie and I heard the beat," Denzil says, "We started writing. It was automatic, we knew what we had to do, create a song, bar for bar like a boxing match". "Haymaker" has a very unique format. It is designed for listeners who enjoy complex word play and can handle a few hooks and jabs.
If you've never been a fan or heard of Denzil, this single will be the reason you become one. The video was directed By Denzil Porter & Jaison Williams; who directed many of Denzil's videos. Be sure to watch, comment and share Happy watching!

NEW MUSIC: Padded Sky

One of the livest bands I know is gearing up to release their next project,

STFU & Listen

With the OXYS, you can also expect the unexpected. But before that releases, the OXYMORRONS are ironically dropping their single, "Padded Sky", on a sound cloud near you. The track is fully reminiscent of their past work projects; however, you can hear the musical growth.  The Hip-Rock, Alternative, R&B, and full-on eclecticism of their records is what makes the Oxys who they are. We look forward to hearing the new project...but for now - Happy listening!

What Are You Waiting, 4?

How anticipated was Beyoncé's 4th solo studio album? So much that it was leaked as early as a month before it was due to release. But today, fans and foes will have to wait no longer, because the new album, entitled 4, is here! Featuring singles, "1+1", "Best Thing I Never Had" and the infamous "Run The World (Girls)", the album has set a tone and a bar for that matter. Some weren't expecting the eclectically put together album, but its either something you'll love or as a cynic, you'll love to criticize. Despite the good or bad reviews, I'm here to let you know that as a fan, I was not disappointed.

eyeBelieve that once again, the "Queen B" has created a timeless album. What are my favorite tracks? Let's see..."Love On Top" is on the top of the list. I love this mid-tempo, pop 80s track. I love the chord modulations, the vocals and the groove. Another on of my favorites is "Countdown". Although it doesn't sound like the mature Beyoncé that we were introduced to as early as her first album Dangerously In Love and the "I Am" side of I Am...Sasha Fierce, it's catchy and fun to sing. One this about Beyoncé, is with her albums, I always expect more, but I guess that's a great marketing scheme. I think it's a well put together album and there's something for everyone.

Is the album what you expected? What's your favorite track? Least favorite? COMMENT!

eyeCare: MS Charity

There comes a time in everyone's life where things change completely.  Just ask rapper Nixon Nyce, who has recently been affected by the disease Multiple Sclerosis (MS). When life throws us off for a second, we have a choice whether we'll let our circumstances control us, or if we're control them.

Nixon took it upon himself to make a difference. Not only is he looking to change his life, but the life of others affected by MS.  Do you have a favorite rap artist? Well we need you to go onto Twitter and make them, and all of your followers, aware of the charity project Nixon has taken on. Not often will anyone have a charity event where 100% of the proceeds benefit the organization, but Nixon is serious about raising money and giving it directly to the cause at hand; the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Watch the video below to see Nizon's personal testimony, and what you need to do to help. Happy watching!

Look At Me Now

Karmin makes up the musical duo of Nick and Amy, who have been buzzing all over the internet. Why? We have the videos that will explain it all. But, if you don't know who they are, let me tell you.

Imagine your favorite rap record being covered by a white male and female. Nothing sounds wrong with that...until you hear the songs they choose. From Lil' Wayne's "6'7" ft. Cory Gunz to Chris Brown's "Look At Me Now", their song choices are what make them so unique and popular.

The duo was recently on the Ellen Show after tallying up over 3 million views on their YouTube page. They're full of personality and they don't miss a lick! I was literally in awe after watching this video. Check it out and let us know what you think! Happy watching.

On the Plains w/Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde

Denzil Porter, who's known for his punchlines, flow, delivery and visual aids, adds two more music videos to his gallery. He's a true artist and if nothing else, he knows how to keep his fans interested and entertained.

Today, we bring you his two latest videos for his singles, "On the Plains" and "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde". If you know Denzil, or his music, you should know that he reps the Bronx/While Plains Rd. hard! "On the Plains" is exactly what it says it is. The video depicts individuals embodying the lyrics of Denzil Porter, as they can all relate to being "on the plains". This video was directed by Jaison Williams, who also directed D.P.'s video for "The Reasons."

The second video we're bringing to you is his newest, "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde"; which was inspired by Robert Stevenson's iconic novel released in 1886. The imagery in the video displays the split personalities of D.P. very well, and we can thank no other than Ulysses Adams for his direction on the video. You'll get a sense of both sides of Denzil Porter; the conservative/mysterious side, and the beast! We hope you enjoy the videos and look our for more from D.P. as he gears up to release his new project! Happy watching (Warning: Foul language, listen at your own discretion).

eyeInspire: Change the World

If you could describe the word worship, as pertaining to spirituality, how would you do so? Many think of worship as being in church dancing, singing, shouting, etc., but true worship is given by the ways of our lifestyle. Listening to William McDowell's album As We Worship has opened my eyes to many different things on a spiritual level. He speaks about submission, faith, and changing the world.  Another gospel artist who makes it a point to let us know that we (each one of us), have the power to change the world, is Israel Houghton. If we all had the mentality that we - on our own - along with God's strength could change the world, the world would change. One of the most powerful statements that he made was this:

"We're not powerless, we're not without authority, but we're His agents in the earth. We are the generation. Change is not going to happen if we don't do it. If nothing changes with us, nothing changes. That's why God said,
'If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.' - 2 Chronicles 7:14
When we get this, the world will change. See we're brought into the mentality that the majority rules and we can't do anything by ourselves. But we don't live in a democracy, we live in the Kingdom. God and us are the majority! We can change the world!"

Imagine yourself being someone who could change the world. If you don't think it's possible, think again! God didn't put us here on earth to be stagnant; we're on this earth with purpose. I used to think that the things people saw in me were too great for me to ever accomplish, but the beauty of that is that they are. What's even more beautiful is that God did not create us ill-equipped for anything we were called to do. If a stranger can look at you and tell you that you're going to do something extraordinary, you better believe it, because that's what God created us for. We're not just meant to live in this world, but we're here to change it. Be the change you want to see!

JUNK FOoD: Sometimes FAME Kills

"The album is what I would like them to talk about" how idealistic, and certainly preferable in the case, of Chris Brown as he spoke with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America recently. His objective was to promote his album F.A.M.E which hit stores on March 22nd; however, things sharply took a turn for the worst ending in Breezy trashing the dressing room and leaving the ABC studios shirtless. If you follow the old consideration, "Bad publicity is better than no publicity", you might chance putting a positive spin on this occurence. BUT if you're like the rest of us, you will agree that this did not help an already considerably fledgeling public opinion.

In theory, yes Chris Brown should've been able to concentrate on the good and his album release - but in reality, the chances of him dancing his way into people's hearts might never happen. This is show-business folks, and that's what the people want, a show.

As an ABC spokesperson put it, "As always, we asked questions that are relevant and newsworthy, and that's what we did in this interview with Mr. Brown." When its all said and done, the media has to do their job just as Chris has to do his. I wonder how he would rate that performance?

"These words are a chance to be remembered and reprised"

eyeListen: "Jam" & "21st Century Girl"

The world of pop music is making a bigger splash each and everyday. Today we have releases from rising "Popstars" Kim Kardashian and Willow Smith. Despite the prior leakage of her debut single, Kim Kardashian officially released "Jam" produced by The Dream on Ryan Seacrest's radio show today. After hearing the track, I was just as surprised as hearing the debut of "Tardy for the Party" by Kim Zolciac. Don't get me wrong, the track is cool, but I wasn't blown away or anything. Most of the track is auto-tuned, laced with vocals from The Dream. I give it to Kim for branding herself in a number of different markets. One thing you can't deny is the girl knowing how to keep the money rolling in.

With Willow's undeniable success with her single "Whip My Hair", it's no mistaking that she has the talent and charisma to become the new "It" girl of the industry. She recently premiered a snippet of her upcoming single "21st Century Girl" on Oprah's Most Talented Kids episode.
The 10-year-old has been compared to Rihanna for her sound and fashion sense. We can only imagine that her success will be just as great. Peep the snippet of "21st Century Girl" & Kim's "Jam" below and be sure to leave us your opinions. Happy listening!

Desiree Tizon, A Voice & A Dream

You never know how small the world is, until you actually meet the people living in it. Want to know how small my world is? I found out when I met singer, Desiree Tizon, who lives literally two flights up from me in Yonkers, NY. Desiree is currently a student at Florida International University (F.I.U.), studying Public Relations. But besides her education credentials, this girl can sing! Desiree sat down with elleELLEeye for an interview and we got to know her a little better.

LLi: What makes you love singing?

DT: When I listen to music, and I see how it influences me. I want to be that influence for other people. Especially for girls...you don't see that many female singers period. And if you do, they come and they leave. Every time I feel like I want to give up, "I'm like I can do it!"

LLi: What's missing from the music industry that you plan to bring?

DT: [What's missing is a] realness. A lot of people just want to force and push out hits, not really remembering why they were doing it in the first place. My main motive is to remember why others love my music. When people say that they like my music, a lot of them say, the lyrics meant a lot to them and that they could relate to it. That's why I want to keep doing it.

LLi: Do you ever feel like school interferes with you reaching dreams?

DT: All the time! I've always been a student who was involved in everything, so I was like "Oh, whatever, this is going to be nothing." It didn't happen that way. I had a meeting with [producers] Cool and Dre and they're like "This is hot; we want you to be a writer for us". [Unfortunately, I had to study for my sorority initiation on the day they wanted to meet.] I think I messed that [relationship] up, because I guess they saw it as, "Oh this girl isn't serious. If she was, she would be here right now."

LLi: Is there anyone you would like to work with...up and coming/underground artists?

DT: J. Cole. I love him so much. A lot of people say "Oh you just love him because he's a rapper." But, [what] I respect most is that he had the same problem I did. He was going to college, he didn't know how he was going to push his music - but he got his degree. Now, look at where he is. I look up to that a lot. I really like his music.

LLi: What do you live for?

DT: Music. Honestly, this has always been something I knew I was going to do. Sometimes I would get scared and say, maybe I should just go to school, get a job and be normal. But once this started taking off, I knew I could do this.

LLi: Who's the most inspirational person when it comes to your music career?

DT: My biggest inspiration is Alicia Keys. I respect her so much; her and Beyoncé. I started playing piano because of Alicia Keys. I could look at her in a concert, she can sit and play the piano the whole time, and everyone would love her. Everybody respects her. That's what I want.

LLi: With influences like Mary J. Blige and Alicia Keys, it’s easy for artists to lose their way by trying to sound like or be like someone else. How will you remain you?

DT: [I will remain me] by staying true to the music. A lot of people in the business [today] want everything to be a hit. But Mary J. Blige's "I'm going down", wasn’t a “hit”. A&Rs would listen to it and say - this is just another ballad. But, she stood true to what she was doing, and now we look [back] at it and say, "That was a classic." So I'll stay focused [on me].

LLi: You began writing songs at 7, what were you writing about at that age? How has your music progressed since then?

DT: I was writing about love! My dad was a freestyle DJ for Stevie B. and all of that high-pitched "Rock the Bells" type stuff. I would just write little stuff then. [I’ve progressed] format-wise. Even now, [with my version of "Killin' Em"] it was hard to write. Rappers, they have a flow for their 16 bars, but if a singer does the same melody to the bars, people will snore. So it's just learning to overcome that.

LLi: What's your recording process?

DT: Actually, a lot of the songs I write are on the spot. The first song I did, "I Wanna Go Back", is the only song I wrote ahead of time. It's just a thing of me going to the studio with my producer Michael, and I’ll write.

LLi: What inspires your ability to create?

DT: All of the songs I write are personal. The one that's coming out soon is called "Gonna Say Bye". All of my other songs have been [about love] and then something happened where things weren't so lovey anymore. So the next song is showing how I was there for everything, but [he didn't] appreciate me - so - I'm going to say bye. When I'm about to write, I think about how I feel. It's like writing a diary in your own format.

LLi: Being a music artist, what type of picture would you paint for the world to see?

DT: [I’ll paint a picture of somebody who can do a lot]. With all I do, people call me Wonder Woman. In order to be a good role model for people, you need to be smart and be able to hold yourself well. At the same time, you need to be able to be a boss and hold your own. I want the world to look at me like "She's a sweet girl, but don't mess with her!"

LLi: Do you have any stand out moments in your music career thus far?

DT: A lot of the things that I remember most have been singing with my high school choir [at Osceola High School]. I didn't go to a performing arts school; I went to a regular high school in a little city next to Orlando, named Kissimmee. That choir did everything for me. I learned so much through them, and more about myself; like learning to have patience and how to deal with other people. We sang in Virginia at “Music in the Parks”, in New York to sing at Carnegie Hall, the Bahamas, L.A., and all over Florida. Sometimes [it’s tiring, but] "I love this life".

LLi: How do you prepare for a performance?

DT: Before I perform I have to listen to music that makes me feel like I'm the sh*t. If I mess up the first time, they're going to remember me as the girl who messed up. I’ll listen to Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj [to help me] put on this demeanor like "I got this!" Once you have that, you're good.

LLi: There are no limits, what would be your dream performance?

DT: To go to any other country and have people know the words to my songs. I don't know how I would react to that. I was watching, the Beyoncé Experience, and she was in Tokyo. Those people don't know English, but they know all the words to her songs. That would be enough for me.

LLi: When can we expect new music from you? Do you have any upcoming projects?

DT: My new website, www.DesireeTizon.com features two new songs. I just did songs for Miami artists Kurtiz the Kid and Mercy. I'll be working with Ghost Rider and J. Nics (who’s opened up for Curren$y, Wiz Khalifa, and Big Sean).

eyePod: Downloads from Ayindigo & Nov

Is your eyePod lacking some up-to-date music in the Hip-Hop category? That's what we're here for. Today we have two tracks from some great unsigned talent.

The stars have arrived! And boy do they sound good! Ayindé + Indigo = Ayindigo have released their second single off of the Ayindigo project (release date TBA); "The Stars Arrived" featuring Fendi. If you know these artists, you know that their lyrical capability alone is crazy. So add a dope track for them to go off on and it's a done deal. The track is smooth and has an ill vibe to it.

Nov, who is new to our audience a rapper from Buffalo NY. Nov started his own label, Majeestyle Entertainment in 2005, and released his first project, The War in Music last year. I think I'm in love with his new single "Just Like You", as you will be too once you hear this joint. To get more information on Nov, visit his website: This Is Nov.

Gifted Bloggers: TLB

Blogging: A universal form of writing where people share their thoughts, opinions, photos, videos, etc. for the world to see. Some blog about music, relationships, and food, while others may choose to use their blog as a form of an open diary. Whatever your cup of tea is when it comes to blogging, you stumble upon your favorite blogs once you enter into the blogosphere. One blogger that I find to be gifted in what she does is The Lady Blogga.

The Lady Blogga is currently gearing up to release of her book, “The Little Things We Learn In Life” ; which is a 3 book series that focuses on three important aspects of life…“the Heart”, “the Grind”, “the Fam”. Book 1, “the Heart” is due out next month. ”the Heart” takes the reader on a myriad of journeys through various relationships. Relationships that are affected by some of the same things that are dealt with in real life. Mistresses, occupations, Social Networking… But it also gives the other side. Love, Happiness, Togetherness. The objective behind the book is to help the reader see beyond their own situation (thaladyblogga.com).

Other than preparing herself for becoming a published writer with a book on the shelves of your favorite bookstores (and hopefully, the New York Times Best-Sellers list), she's not afraid to speak her mind! Don't believe me?

eyeIntroduce to You, D.O.S.

How do you define success? Looking for an example? I can give you two; Young Nyse and McFly. These artists make up the Rap/Electro-Hop duo, D.O.S. (Definition Of Success). Not only is their name inspiring, but they are living examples of what success is. Currently a part of the Freshman 15 Entertainment/TrackTeam Records Camp, D.O.S. are two young black men making it out of the South Bronx with college educations, and a positive outlook on life. They are focused on making music, all the while pursuing a career in the music industry. D.O.S. proves that their inspiration comes from living, and say that they are inspired by any and everything.
Musically we draw from artist we grew up listening to constantly. Of course Biggie & Jay-Z, but also different music like Morris Day and the Time, Prince, Ready for the World, Run DMC, Kurtis Blow, Sheila E. etc. Today, we feel the biggest dudes doing it are Jay-Z, Drake, Lil Wayne, Fabolous, Big Sean, Kanye, on the Rap side and on the Electro-Hop side Far East Movement, N.E.R.D., Akon, David Guetta, LMFAO. - (D.O.S.)

We've known the Bronx to breed some of the hardest records in Hip-Hop, but D.O.S. wants to introduce the BX to a new sound with their debut single “Sing All Night (Marscruiser Remix)”. The song features lyrics by D.O.S. alongside production from Paul "Marscruiser" Determan. Check out the the video below that was directed by Tara Maloney. Happy watching (FYI: Explicit Lyrical Content)!

eyeReview: Pink FRIDAY

The "Moment 4 Life" for the self-proclaimed Harajuku Barbie, Nicki Minaj, has arrived. The release of her debut album, Pink Friday has hit stores and is sure to cause mayhem in the music industry. It's no secret that almost everyone has mixed feelings about Nicki, whether its over her character, her kookiness, or her lyrical content. Truth is, the young lady is good at what she does, and since music is a form of expression I personally feel that she's entitled to present herself in whatever manner she feels appropriate for herself.

With all of that being said, I've listen to the album and will give her 4.5/5 eyes!
The lyrical content is there, the punchlines, the hooks, the versatility, the story, and the element of Rap and Hip-Hop. You can hear her growth and development now from the time of her mix-tapes days. If I had to pick one, my favorite track would have to be "Fly" featuring Rihanna. Other tracks that I can listen to over and over (not including those released as singles) are: "Here I Am", "Moment 4 Life" - I believe that life is a prize, but to live doesn’t mean you’re alive...And this very moment I’m king, this very moment I slay Goliath with a sling. I wish that I could have this moment for life...'cause in this moment I just feel so alive. - and "I'm the Best". Other featuring on the album include Natasha Bedingfield, Kanye West, Drake and Will.I.Am. Overall, it is a good album that I could listen to from start to finish. Kudos to Nicki, her hater, supporters, and everyone involved in this project.

In the words of Rihanna in "Fly": I came to win, to fight, to conquer to thrive. I came to win, to survive, to prosper, to rise...To FLY! Listen to "Fly" now, happy listening!

Do you have the album? What are your thoughts? What do you think her first week sales will look like? COMMENT!
