Hugo by Hugo Boss Spring 2010

Creative Director Bruno Pieters’ latest outing for Hugo by Hugo Boss is inspired by the work of German artist Wolfgang Uhlig. Taking to a sleek predominantly black and white color palette, Pieters’ collection is delightful battle between tradition and modern aspirations.

The traditional suit is at the collection’s core acting as nature, while Pieters’ methods of design bring in the architectural quality. The suit undergoes a modern transformation losing its lapels and gaining small slits where the lapel would typically break.

Horizontal lines, faint and obvious create a blinds effect across clean pieces encompassing everything from the suiting to footwear. Gold scale encrusted blazers and coats add a dimension that hints at Hugo moving further in the future. However, with great restraint and only a hint, the collection remains grounded, boding well not only for Bruno Pieters, but his successful reincarnation of the Hugo line as a valued asset to the ongoing direction of menswear.

What do you think of this line? For me the shorts are a little too short and the pants need about two inches in seam allowance. Other than that, eyeLike it!
