eyeCare: Remembering September 11th

It's so crazy that it's been eight years since the World Trade Center was hit. My prayers and condolences go out to the families who were affected by this.

Tonight, Jay-Z honors the eighth anniversary of 9/11 with his "Answer The Call" charity concert at Madison Square Garden.

For those who will miss out on attending the show--tickets were snatched up minutes after going on sale--Fuse TV is airing Jay's performance live, along with an interview with Touré, tonight at 9pm.

What were you doing on September 11, 2001 when you heard the news?

I was in the 9th grade about to cut class. I looked out the window and saw mad smoke in the sky. It was crazy.

  1. I was in the 9th grade to in Earth Science Lab with Mrs. Gallagher. She came in and told us that the towers had been hit and that everyone was alright. Little did she know...

A few minutes after they called for all the students who had family that worked near or in the WTC. When school ended it was me, my best friend Teashia and my friend Ebony and we walked down to the bus stop to go home. I had to use the bathroom so bad so we knockeed on a stranger's door and they let us use the bathroom. Then we stopped and saw it on the news.

While we were waiting at the bus stop we could see the smoke in the air as we looked in the direction of the city (we were in Yonkers).

I'm not going to lie, at 1st I didn't see a big deal in the situation (1. because my teacher said everything was ok and 2. because no one I had known personally was affected by it). I remember sitting on my bed doing my homework looking for a channel that wasn't broadcasting "9/11" footage and I think I watch Arthur or BET.

I still don't think I've fully takeen in the situation and the fact that our generation is living a life that will be put in our children and grandchildren's history books. First this...and now we have an "African-American" President of the United States.
