Ring Finger

Girls grew up knowing the rule...don't put rings on your "ring finger" because then you'll be cursed from getting married. Sounds pretty foolish and superstitious to say the least, but there are many other things that come to mind when I think of this infamous "ring finger". I've heard the superstitious plea before and I've even seen girls where and abstinence/purity ring (which is a pledge to God that you will not have sex before marriage). All of this is nice, but why is the fourth finger from the thumb the ring finger?

I watched a video today and it was interesting and pretty cool at the same time; and after doing some research, I found out some more information on the ring finger:

I've heard this one before: According to tradition in some countries (derived from Roman belief), the wedding ring is worn on the left ring finger because the vein in the left ring finger, referred to as the vena amoris was believed to be directly connected to the heart, a symbol of love, the left side being probably since the heart is on the left side of the body.

Blessing the wedding ring and putting it on the bride's finger dates from the 11th century. In medieval Europe, the Christian wedding ceremony placed the ring in sequence on the index, middle, and ring fingers of the left hand, representing the trinity; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit respectively.

Here is a video stating why the Chinese believe that "The wedding ring is worn on the fourth finger".
