Scared of Lonely

What is your biggest fear?

How do you scale such a thing? Most people would say death, seeing as though it is the epitome of finality, anything short of that is reversible (barring certain travesties but that's another topic). he reason I ask this today, is because I have heard many people tell me that their biggest fear is being alone. It has made me pause every time I have heard it. I love great company and value the dependability in others, regardless of what element it is in; but I question, was I not born alone?

I don't remember anyone being connected to my hip when I came into this world, so should I not be trained to have only two people to answer to - myself and the most high. I struggle with this, and by no means have I negated the importance of my child (whom I must consider in every decision that I make), but I know for a fact the most vulnerable moments I have met in life is when I have found myself "afraid to be alone." So what is to be made of this?

In this present moment I must deal with facts, and fact is when I am not afraid of being by myself, I feel empowered, independent, capable, and most importantly comfortable with myself.

What are you afraid of? Comment.

Bad News Bears

eyeAsk, How do you break bad news to a friend?

They say a real friend should always be able to tell another friend the truth, albeit right wrong or indifferent. Does everyone agree? In my man experiences I have come to realize that whether or not the friend appreciates it, I must keep it real for lack of a better term. Hating me or not, I would rather be able to hang my hat on the fact that I am straightforward with those whom I really care about. At this point I realize that it is not the easiest thing in the world, but it has become the most proficient.

I recently had to break some disturbing news to a friend, at the same time telling them about themselves and their ways. TOUGH love I called it; and it's definitely what I want in return. Anyone can be idle and watch, waiting for the so-called "I told you so" moment, but if you never mentioned anything how can it be?

As I grow, mature, succeed, fail, or remain status quo, I am trying to rest on my morals and be able to conquer one of the hardest things in the world - sleep comfortably with myself at night.

Do you not want the same? Leave your thoughts in a comment.

eyeWant: A BlackBerry Playbook

And the battle continues...iPhone or BlackBerry? Whatever your choice is, you now have another gadget to add to your wish list. Blackberry users, wallow no more, you now have a PlayBook. Yes, this is RIM’s BlackPad tablet device to the left which should be unveiled in a few days and hit stores this Holiday season.

There was no mention of on board storage capacity during the keynote, though the devices we just spied in our eyes-on post are labeled 16GB and 32GB on their back panels. The PlayBook will be capable of 1080p HD video, and comes equipped with an HDMI port as well as a microUSB jack, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, and Bluetooth 2.1. The device clocks in at a svelte 5.1- by 7.6-inches, is only 0.4-inches thick, and weighs just 400g (or about 0.9 pounds).

While that could paint an inelegant picture for many iPad users, it’s also a signal that RIM initially will market the device to its own core customers. The BlackPad reportedly will sport as many as two cameras, with one pointed at the user for videoconferencing.

Here's how the PlayBook measures up to the iPad:

eyeInspire: Be the Apple of His Eye

Keep me as the apple of Your eye…” Psalm 17:8, NIV

In this day and age, people are considered to be important for so many different reasons — titles, position, possessions, where you go, what you drive, etc. But God’s value system is very different from the value system of the world. God cherishes and values you so much today, simply because He made you. You are the apple of His eye; the center of His world!

If you’ve ever thought that God has too many other important things on His plate to be concerned with you and your life, know this today — you are God’s number one priority. And there’s nothing you can do to be more important or less important to Him. He values you today and your value will never change. You are significant. Your life is significant. The things that concern you, concern God. He carefully watches over every detail of your life, and there is nothing too big or too small for His attention.

Today, don’t be afraid to take your concerns and cares to the Father. He loves to hear you call upon Him. He is waiting to show Himself strong on your behalf.

Here's a prayer you can say today: Father in heaven, thank You for loving me today. Thank You for keeping me the apple of Your eye. I open my heart and mind to You and cast every care on You. I receive Your love for me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Eyeread vintage: Green Eggs & Ham

I will never forget the day I fell in love with Dr. Seuss.

I was four years-old, obsessed with reading, and could not get enough of his books.

The classic story follows a character that refuses to taste green eggs and ham. However, once he tries it, he loves it.

I have to admit the dish does not sound pleasing to my appetite. However, It was because of this story I learned the importance of being open-minded.

Unfortunately, many of us today choose to limit ourselves by not trying new things.

I’m here to tell you: DO NOT FEAR. There’s a world out there waiting for you to grace it with your presence! You never know until you try right?

Got a favorite Dr. Seuss book?

SIA: Be Determined

Self-Improvement Awareness Month
Determination

Are you determined to succeed? Anyone one would answer with a "yes" to that question. But why is it that people's actions do not display a high degree of determination to reach their goals?

Fact is, for some, reaching success is easier said than done. If there's a lack of determination, it's more than likely that you will not reach success. Have you ever had to walk a long distance in order to get to a destination? Were you almost there and then came to a huge hill to walk up? Wasn't it discouraging? The weak willed will weigh their options and just turn around, giving up on their dream; while the determined prepare themselves for this uphill battle.

"It's easier to go down a hill than up it but the view is much better at the top."

Having Hope In the Hopeless...

Inspiration can be found in the most ironic places. As I boarded the train today on my way downtown to handle some tickets before the city of New York commandeers my vehicle today, I felt compelled to grab a copy of the daily news to keep me company on the ride. Under normal circumstances, being the avid sports fan that I am, I tend to read the newspaper the Islamic way(back to front) due to the back being the sports section.

For some reason today I went against my normal routine, feeling the need to catch up on the current events of my city. Looking for inspiration, as I often do, I was moved well let be honest I was overwhelmed by the coping mechanisms of a populace recently struck by tragedy. Over the weekend members of the Joy fellowship Christian Assemblies were involved in a horrific accident; which claimed the lives of 6 members, while hospitalizing 8 others.

When I speak of the coping mechanism which overwhelmed me I found inspiration in the ability of the parish to find hope in a seemingly hopeless situation.
When interviewed and giving their thoughts members remarked, "God never makes mistakes." And rather than have heavy hearts, they chose praise of His name and remembrance of their departed friends.
That is POWER to me, which I have recently learned is the ability to define phenomena and make it act in a desired manner.

The phenomena of death, and the ability to cope with pain are two things that I don't think will ever fully be defined or mastered by any individual. However, the ability to channel the emotions that result in the manner that these God-fearing people have is the epitome of INSPIRATION for me.

Flower 4 Power

Ahhh...if you’ve never tried chamomile for healing, you should.

The daisy-like plants are best known for being a key ingredient in tea, which is normally used for aiding sleep trouble, and is often served with either honey or lemon.

It also serves as a stress reliever and is the national flower of Russia (though it also originated in Egypt & Asia).

Many people also use it to aid with ailments and other medical conditions.

Know a recipe?

SIA: Don't Accept Failure!

Self-Improvement Awareness Month
A lesson on overcoming failure

No matter what road you take, or which path you choose, there will always be a mountain to climb, a roadblock, or something that may seem impossible. We may feel extraordinary and try to conquer it, and fail. But what we need to do when failure happens, is get right back to whatever it is we were doing. Failure is only temporary and we always have the option to get up, and make life work for us.

Anthony (Tony) Robbins once said, "I've come to believe that all my past failure and frustration were actually laying the foundation for the understandings that have created the new level of living I now enjoy."

Think about the last time you failed or were frustrated...did you let that hender your success, or did you use it as fuel to power your drive to succeed? Some of us live life and feel like we're so close to a dream that we can taste it, but we quit before it's in our hands. Sometimes success is that close, but there will be times where we have to get mad, and just push through. After you've walked 1000 miles, what's one more step? Why would you come so far just to give up? "Many of life's failures are men who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up." - Thomas Edison

The point is: Don't accept failure!

eyeAsk: Is Everything You Can Ask For Deserved?

Everything you can ask for...

This is my new cliche, potentially replacing "what my hand calls for". What does it actually mean to have everything you can ask for?

In life so many requests are made that it is difficult to keep tabs on the correlation between what you needed, and what you wanted. Where do blessings fit into this? Those can be things that we do not consciously ask for, but are imperative to our existence. I am sure I can speak for more than myself when stating this. Does anyone disagree?

When broken down some more, I tend to remember that hard work conquers and sets the stage for all, does it not?

Is it appropriate to ask for anything that you do not work hard for? If that's the case, then in essence we all can say we have everything we ask for - those being things that we actually deserve cause we have set the table with effort. When disappointed, do you evaluate your performance?
Sometimes people as "why" when they can't have what they want. I say "What did your hand call for"? Harsh but true. That's something that I have to remind myself of at times when things seem rough. I have reached a point where I have put my expectations in perspective. I can truly say that I have all that I asked for; which is exactly the hand I was dealt.

Hispanic Heritage Month:By Accident

By Accident
Julia Alvarez

Sometimes I think I became the woman
I am by accident, nothing prepared
the way, not a dramatic, wayward aunt,
or moody mother who read Middlemarch,
or godmother who whispered, "You can be
whatever you want!" and by doing so
performed the god-like function of breathing
grit into me. Even my own sisters
were more concerned with hairdryers and boys
than the poems I recited ad nauseum

in our shared bedrooms when the lights were out.
"You're making me sick!" my sisters would say
as I ranted on, Whitman's Song of Myself
not the best lullaby, I now admit,
or Chaucer in middle English which caused
many a nightmare fight. "Mami!" they'd called,

"She's doing it again!" Slap of slippers
in the hall, door clicks, and lights snapped on.
"Why can't you be considerate for once?"
"I am," I pleaded, "these are sounds, sweet airs . . .

They give delight and--" "Keep it to yourself!"
my mother said, which more than anything
anyone in my childhood advised
turned me to this paper solitude
where I both keep things secret and broadcast
my heart for all the world to read. And so,
through many drafts, I became the woman
I kept to myself as I lay awake
in that dark bedroom with the lonesome sound
of their soft breathing as my sisters slept.

eyePoll: Dating & Religion

For this edition of eyePoll, DANiE thought we should take a chance and see how you all felt when it came to dating and religion. From the time we first start dating, religion may or may not be a factor, but as you come to terms with a more serious relationship, it can be something that will make or break a relationship - or determine who you are willing to have relations with. So, we asked:

Would you date someone who had different religious beliefs than you? And here were the results:

How did you vote? Why did you vote the way you did? I'll leave my reason in a comment, as should you ;)

SIA: Have CONFIDENCE!

There is always room for improvement, and since September is the Self-Improvement Awareness month eye'm here to help you do that!

CONFIDENCE

To succeed, you need confidence. To have confidence you must have the courage of conviction. Marianne Williamson put it this way:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
