When Love Hurts...

I was sitting on the phone with a friend who was having trouble in her relationship. Like any serious argument, she became flustered, cried, and expressed anger. She also sounded extremely tired.

Not long after she vented to me, her nose began to bleed. Now I’m not saying that her conflicts with her “boo” caused this to happen, but I was reminded of one thing when it comes to love: it may hurt at times, but it should never kill your spirit.

I understand the saying that “nothing worth having isn’t worth fighting for”, but if you find yourself investing emotionally, spiritually, physically, financially, and mentally into another person to the point it takes a toll on your body, you may want to revaluate your situation.

Excuse me while I take it there: the Bible says that “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres” (1 Corinthians 13: 4-7).
Nowhere in there does it say “abuse”. Now you may not be a Christian, but I am pretty sure that most religions do not include settling for anyone that says “I love you” in their doctrine either.

Yes we are human beings who make mistakes so no one is capable of having the “perfect” lover. And yes, sometimes there will be conflict.
However, we must hold each other accountable, and be real with ourselves if we are not truly happy in a relationship.
Do not make excuses for someone’s wrong behavior toward you.
Your well-being is worth more than someone else’s insecurity, unresolved childhood issues, or bad habits.
It’s true: A study from the University of Texas conducted with rabbits found that healthy love can reduce plaque buildup in your arteries, which reduces the overall risk of heart attack.

So just imagine what bad love can do to you….
Transform and renew your mind, and no one else's.
Your heart was created for you as a gift.
Therefore, the person you give it to should always cherish the present.

Ya dig?
