eyeRemember: Shannon Tavarez

At just 11 years-old, 'Lion King' Broadway star, Shannon Tavarez loss her battle to leukemia. The young fighter played the role of Young Nala, and succumbed to the disease after a umbilical cord transplant she had at the end of the summer. Many celebs, including Beyonce and Alicia Keys rallied support for her. Unfortunately, a bone marrow match could not be found.

Our hearts go out to her family, as a few of us from Team elleELLEeye know what it is like to know someone who passed from this disease, is still dealing with it, or know someone who has died young as a result of a terminal illness.

: Something must be in the air, love maybe? July 30, 2010 will be the wedding anniversary for not one, two, but three celebrity couples. NY, Italy, and Miami were the sites for the weddings of President Bill Clinton's only daughter Chelsea and fiancé Mark Mezvinsky, Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz, and long time couple, Tiny and T.I. A few people have their own opinion on the union of A.Keys and Swizzy, but save it for a comment. Congratulations to all of the couples and may the union be til death do them part! Take a look at some wedding photos and details. Happy eating reading!

Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz' International Wedding Getaway

Here are two shots from Swizz and Alicia’s European wedding this weekend in the southern Corsica, Piantarella in Italy. Alica Keys wore a Vera Wang dress complete with colored diamond tiara – while Swizzy kept it chic in a custom Tom Ford suit.

Chelsea Clinton's Wedding

Chelsea Clinton walked down the aisle with her father Bill Clinton in a Vera Wang organza dress for her wedding to Marc Mezvinsky yesterday. According to reports – her wedding costs amounted to $5 Million dollars. "Who she think she is? Chelsea Clinton?!" (TLF).

Tiny & T.I.'s Secret Wedding

T.I. and longtime girlfriend Tiny are now man and wife. T.I., real name Clifford Harris, and Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, were married in a secret wedding ceremony on an island that was on the outskirts of Miami. Cottle is the mother of two of T.I.’s kids and been the rapper’s companion since 2001.

The wedding was positioned as a family trip to the media, but doubled as a wedding. Tiny wore a beautiful Valentino gown and the King of ATL, Tip was clad in Prada. Monica, Kandi Burress (ATL Housewife, and former member of Escape) and co-star of her reality show and ex-wife to Lil Wayne, Toya Carter served as Bridesmaids in the ceremony. BET Awards 2010 Commentary

Queen Latifah - the host - started this year’s BET award show off wonderfully with a comedic introduction and a “performance” to Drake’s "Over". She looked beautiful as usual and definitely kept my attention after the opening act. Let’s backtrack…Kayne West opened the show with his single “Power” from him upcoming album, Good A** Job. Kanye standing on top of a mountain with a mic & colossal chain wasn’t as interesting as I hoped that it would be. Next up was Usher, who performed a favorite of mine, “There Goes My Baby”. I felt his performance from the live band to the lighting and effects (except the vocals). I definitely think he set the bar for Trey Songz, but I think Trey's vocals will be on point. I LOVED Nicki Minaj's acceptance speech! She definitely kept it real and gave a true heartfelt speech; minus the bit of hood that was apparent at the end. T.I. was up next and he put on a show as usual with Travis Barker (who I love) as his drummer.

And the award for "Best Male Hip Hop Artist" goes to...who else? DRAKE! If you missed the announcement, you might've thought that the award was for best group. Young Money is coming to the stage old school passe style. Well deserved award for Drake, although not surprising. Although Queen Latifah's costumes got annoying very quick, little Gabby who came out to help announce Alicia Keys was amazing! Hopefully we hear more from her in the future. Alicia did do a good job. She was glowing and looked and sounded beautiful; baby bump and all. Speaking of baby bump (or lack there of), Keyshia Cole performed B.o.B's hit record "Airplanes II" featuring Haley Williams with Eminem. She definitely wasn't herself, and I mean that in the best way, because she sounded great! Until she started to over sing the song, but overall, good performance.

Monica was next up singing her single "Everything to Me". Then she brought out legend Denise Williams, who she sample the song from. The two went on to introduce the award for Best Collaboration; which went to Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys for "Empire State of Mind". Next on the stage was Diddy Dirty Money featuring T.I., Rick Ross, and Nicki Minaj. I can't front, that performance was all the way turned up! They killed, if you disregard the lip syncing.

Next up, Chris Brown with a Tribute to the late Michael Jackson. I missed the performance, but I did hear him and just glad that BET gave him a chance to hit the stage. He was probably overwhelmed by performing for the same people who lost respect for him last year after the infamous situation. I'm happy he received a standing ovation and was embraced. Hopefully he can come back full force, sooner than later. Thank Me Later, or now if you must...DRAKE hit the stage with a medley and was joined on stage by Young Jeezy (who looked crispy in his all white - the jacket was on point). They performed "Lost My Mind" (remix) and Drake was into his performance to say the lease. I was hoping he would perform "Light Up" and Jay would make a surprise appearance, but - that didn't happen.

And the award for "Best Male R&B Artist" goes to Mr. Trey Songz! He was up against some stiff competition; Chris Brown (who the crowd went wild for) and Usher to name a couple. His mother is beautiful and was so happy for him, as she should be. El Debarge followed and some may have said he danced more than he sang(and that the performance was random) - but it was a high energy performance...Gary Coleman was honored by Todd Bridges and Tyrese honor to Teddy Pendergrass by singing his classics. The tributes were kept alive by Kim Burrell, Karen Clark Shepard, Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, and Yolanda Adams with a tribute song to Haiti. John Legend was the Humanitarian Award recipient of the Night for his work in the US and Africa with the "Show Me" campaign; who provides clean water, nutrition, and education to help break the cycle of poverty. AWESOME ACCEPTANCE SPEECH!

In my opinion, Trey Songz performance was better than Usher's although he did go a little too in at the end. He paid homage to Prince with a little bit of classic "Purple Rain", overall, good job to Trey! The award for "Video of the Year" went to Beyoncé and Lady Gaga for "Video Phone", in which neither ladies were present LOL!

Now for that Prince tribute...It started off with words from Stevie Wonder, who "saw Prince dance" lol and began with a performance from Janelle Monae. She was extremely animated as usual; while performing "Crazy" and had Prince looking at her like...OKAY! Esperanda Spaldin was next followed by Alicia Keys and Patti LaBelle - who went IN! Chris Brown took home an award on behalf of his fans, the "Fandeominum" award.

And one of the last performances of the night: "My Chick Bad" by Ludacris featuring Nicki Minaj. Tommy Lee on drums was on Drums and then came DJ Khaled featuring the new dream team, T-Pain, Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Diddy for the "My Chick Bad" Remix followed by the "All I Do is Win remix". I LOVE LOVE LOVE that song! Great ending! I wish I was there, but that will soon come.

Some random things you may have seen in the audience of the show: Brandy looked great, until I saw her on stage. Lisa Raye was wearing white...surprised?, Tiny is now a blonde...again. Overall this was one of BET's best shows.

Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees of the night! What are/were your thoughts on the show?

Alicia Keys: HAUTE or HATE IT

So, here we are again with another HAUTE or HATE IT. This time, let's talk about the beautiful Alicia Keys. (Congrats to her and Swiss on their great baby news by the way!) Anyway, here she is at the Keep a Child Alive Ball in London.

Alicia is wearing a one of a kind Dolce & Gabbana strapless ruffled cocktail dress with crystal detailing. The gown is embellished with tons of petal shaped pieces of fabric, except for the band that is strategically placed to help show off her waist (and hide the baby bump). AK also has on some amazing silver, pointy Christian Louboutin toe red bottom heels. Love the shoes, but not sure about the overall look.

What's your opinion? HAUTE or HATE IT?

Stay Couture, Aliciia

eyeListen: Un-Thinkable Remix

Although Drake was a co-writer on the original "Un-Thinkable (I'm Ready)" track and laid down some vocals, it was only right that he put a verse on the remix! I love this song, but personally I prefer the original over this one. I feel like Drake's verse makes it another song Drake is featured on; opposed to the fresh feeling you get from listening to it without him. But I will let you be the judge and leave you thoughts in a comment. Happy Listening!

eyeWatch: Unthinkable (I'm Ready)

The highly anticipated release of the video for "Un-thinkable (I'm Ready)" is here. Alicia Keys is looking beautiful and director, Jake Nava, has captured the essence of the song and turned it into a storyline reminiscent of A Bronx Tale. This song is so passionate and one that I could listen to repeatedly, having it sound brand new every time. I can't wait to see what you all think about it, so without further ado, here it is...Happy watching!

Loss of a Legend: Lena Horne

R.I.P. Lena Horne

Born June 30, 1917, Lena Mary Calhoun Horne was an American singer, actress and dancer. Not only that, but she was an inspiration for some of the greatest female performers of our current time. Ask Alicia Keys (who was set to play Lena Horne an upcoming biopic produced by Oprah Winfrey), Beyoncé or Lauryn Hill who their musical influences are and I'm sure one of the names will be Lena Horne. She lived a long life of 92 years and her legacy will live on. Take a look at what made her who she is...Happy reading!

Horne joined the mike chorus of the Cotton Club at the age of sixteen and became a nightclub performer before moving to Hollywood where she had small parts in numerous movies, and more substantial parts in the films Cabin in the Sky and Stormy Weather. Due to the Red Scare and her progressive political views, Horne found herself blacklisted and unable to get work in Hollywood.

Returning to her roots as a nightclub performer, Horne took part in the March on Washington in August 1963, and continued to work as a performer, both in nightclubs as well as television, and releasing well received albums. Horne announced her retirement in March 1980, but the next year starred in a one woman show, Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music, which ran for more than three hundred performances on Broadway, and earned her numerous awards and accolades, and she would continue recording and performing sporadically into the 1990's (via Wiki).

eyeSpy: effFIERCE Keys!

Alicia Keys looked incredibly fierce at a photocall for her album “The Element of Freedom” in Japan.  Her head to toe look was simple, yet impeccable!

"From the beginning, I’ve had to juggle and weigh the silly things people say – and I’ve learned that they’re meaningless and they’re mostly inaccurate. …I don’t worry about it, because there’s nothing for me to deal with. I know exactly the person that I am and I feel very proud of who that person is.” – Alicia Keys

In February, she will go on the road for the “Freedom” Tour with opening act Melanie Fiona. Click here to check out the dates. In the meantime, her new album is still riding high on the billboard charts at #4, weeks after it’s release.

eyePOD: unTHINKABLE

Without a shadow of a doubt one of the best songs on Alicia Keys' latest album, The Element of Freedom is "Unthinkable" featuring Drake. The vocals are so soothing and the intrumental arrangement in the chorus is on point. This is definitely one of my favorite songs hence it being on our eyePod. So check it out, and while you're at it, check out Nixon Nyce's version of "Unthinkable" off of his upcoming mixtape Useless Love Songs due to drop on Valentine's Day.

eyeReview: The Element of Freedom

Songs in A Minor, As I Am and The Diary of Alicia Keys, three great albums from one great artist, Alicia Keys! And with hits like "Doesn't Mean Anything", "Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart" and "Put it in A Love Song", there's no doubt in my mind that The Element of Freedom will be yet another accomplishment for this singer/songwriter/actress.

Keys delivered with a slightly different approach on this project than most of her fans may be used to, but it works. With her 80s sounds, synthesizers, eclectic blend, and collaborations with Beyoncé, and Drake (who she said she wouldn't mind working with a few months back on 106 & Park). The only thing I was hoping for was her ill arrangement of harmonies; which there was a lack of compared to As I Am. Instead, her percussion and instrumental approach on the album made up for it.

Besides the singles that she has already released, I love "That's How Strong My Love Is", "Un-Thinkable (I'm Ready) featuring Drake, "This Bed" and "Though it All". The album is great and definitely one of those that you can listen to from beginning to end! Great job Alicia! You get 4.5 eyes!
