Women in the World Summit

The Women in the World Summit took place this past weekend in NYC. With women sharing their stories and solutions to the problems they face, it was a moment of empowerment during Women's History Month. Jewelry designer, David Yurman took part in the Women in the World summit by hosting the auction to help raise funds for organizations that make a difference in the lives of women and girls. Not only is the winning bidder supporting a cause they believe in, but this person is also bidding on something one-of-a-kind. David Yurman cordially invites the winner and guests for a special afternoon, featuring unique access into the world of the premiere luxury jewelry and timepiece designer and an exclusive presentation of his collections.

Doesn't that sound like a treat! The winning bidder and two guests will have an Upper East Side French lunch, and then visit the David Yurman Townhouse on Madison Avenue for an intimate presentation of jewels from David Yurman’s Limited Edition and Couture collections. In addition, she will receive a limited edition David Yurman Infinity gold and diamond necklace, customized to celebrate Women in the World 2011. This exceptional limited edition piece will be one that only this person and her two friends will own, reminding them of the unity and bond shared as women and a priceless treasure to always remember the day and of the winning bidder's generous contribution.

Let us spread love and celebrate the success, strength and power of women around the world.

Hipsy by Nyne Lyves

I've discovered some jewels that I just have to share with my fashion loving guys and gals. These jewels are from a Brooklyn based gal that goes by the name Nyne who hand makes funky, eclectic and bold pieces for the Hipsy ones that aren't afraid to stand out!

Nyne is mostly known for her nose chains that can be seen on Young Money's Shanell. It's fine if you don't have a nose piercing, there are other cool things that can be adorned. Such as, "The Love Below"; an ear to ear chain that is accompanied by a pink and blue feather which was inspired by the song "Pretty Pink Baby Blue" on Outkast's "The Love Below"' album. And don't worry fellas Nyne has debuted some pieces for the guys too. Her male pieces are promising for the eclectic funky man.

My personal favorite piece for the men is the "Granted" bracelet; which is "for the Man that doesn't take things for granted, for he is humble and honorable." These are a few of my favorite pieces from the "Hipsy" collection that launched earlier last week. So, if you dare to be FLY these jewels are for you and can be found at nynelyves.bigcartel.com. I hope you enjoy them as much I do!

The Dropping of a Jewel

(AllHipHop News) Compton, California rap star Game took offense to Miami rapper Rick Ross' song "B.M.F. (Blowin Money Fast)" in the latest issue of Complex Magazine. In the interview, Game seems to take offense to Rick Ross' glamorization of Black Mafia Family gang leader Demetrius "Big Meech" Flenory and Gangster Disciples' founder, Larry Hoover. While Game rarely hides his own affiliation with The Bloods street gang, he stated that he didn't want to lead his fans in the wrong direction. "All these people thinking they're gangsta. And after the Rick Ross song B.M.F. everybody thinking they're Big Meech again, Larry Hoover. Nobody really should wanna be that or aspire to be that 'cause you're gonna end up in a coffin," Game told Complex. "And trust me man, most of these rappers outside of me, 50 Cent and maybe Waka Flocka and a few others, have never felt bullets man, ain't never had a brush with actually having your life erased. So a lot of these rappers out here playing. That's just not the message I'm trying to send across no more."

I had to take a minute to take my hat off to the Game for dropping these words of wisdom, and I encourage anyone who shares his sentiments to let themselves be heard as well. I fully believe that there are better things to do then idolize or try to emulate doom. There is no future of believing that you can re-enact what Big Meech or Larry Hoover have been able to do with their lives.
Anyone I have ever met who has took a stab at trying has failed, and with that failure came the realization that it is senseless to try and persuade others to follow. A brush with death is a serious and eye-opening experience. Take it from me personally, and if by chance you won't take these words as fact, ask around and I'm sure you will come across someone wise enough to tell you the truth. There's an old saying that "everyone cannot dance to every song." With that being said, don't go trying to be something you are not. "We Can" is what the leader says, and you should follow; and not in the footsteps of those who may never see daylight again.

Minor Setback, Major Comeback

In a recent freestyle, Jadakiss spit a slick line that stated "Jacob's out of jail so I guess I'll spend a couple hundred with him." What's even slicker is the chain and ring that Kanye West showed up with at the 2010 BET Awards. Price tag: a measly $300,000 [insert Kanye shrug here]. How's that for a comeback? "I heard you've been looking for me." is something that I could imagine Yeezy saying to himself while walking onto the stage, or climbing that mountain on his way to perform "Power".

Not only was the jewelry mean, but the symbolism was terrific! The piece was a depiction of the Egyptian God, Horus, who was the god of war, god of protection, and the god of the sky. Let's not forget Kanye's run from about circa two years ago when he was the person to call when you wanted a hit, and certainly still is.

Kanye is a certified Platinum, out the gate artist, and a genius to say the least. His limits are undiscovered. Therefore, the sky cannot even act as a ceiling. War will be waged on the industry once he drops again, so have fun while there still is some - rappers. Good A** Job will be here soon.

Are you anticipating Mr. West's upcoming project?

The Sound of Jewelry

Behind every great piece of art, there lies an artist who translates their creative thoughts into wonderful images. The same goes for anyone who has a particular craft; including musicians, athletes, and fashion designers. Iran Ortiz, creator of the brand and the jewelry line, Endless Noise NYC, is no different! Her work speaks for itself, and with every piece handmade, we're sure that soon enough her work will be seen in stores and on our favorite celebrities. Check out the interview:

elleELLEeye: How did you come up with the name Endless Noise NYC?
Iran Ortiz: In addition to jewelry I was also making these clutches made out of fabric. The name Endless Noise represents the sounds that are constantly around me when creating something; The sound of the sewing machine, music, radio, my family, my dog barking, the cars outside and etc.

elleELLEeye: What inspired you to start your company?
Iran Ortiz: About 4 years ago, I would make jewelry pieces or clutches for my friends as birthday and holiday gifts. They would always tell me to start selling my pieces. I have always had a 9-5 job, therefore was not able, with my time to begin a business. Fortunately, a year and a half ago, I was laid off and was able to work on starting the line.

elleELLEeye: What designers inspire you?
Iran Ortiz: One designer that does inspire me is Kerin Rose. I heard her story through a friend of mine and soon after was following her on Twitter. She inspires me because she goes the extra mile in everything that she does. Not only are her products beautiful but they are also of high quality. Kerin Rose is a true hustler.

elleELLEeye: If you could collaborate, and do a line, with any designer who would it be and why?
Iran Ortiz: Hmmm...there are so many designers I admire and would love to work with one day. If I could collaborate with any designer, I would choose Rebecca Minkoff because I love her whole concept. She has bags that are perfect for every occasion. You can really fit a pair of flats, and all your morning essentials for a “long” night out in the “Morning After Bag”. The Mac Clutch is perfect for a girl like me who takes the subway into the city and needs to bring a book to read, but at the same time doesn’t want to bring a huge bag to the club. It would definitely be hot to collaborate with her.

elleELLEeye: We know that every girl should have that "little black dress" to wear on all occasions; what piece of jewelry should every girl have?
Iran Ortiz: Every girl should have the Espressione Necklace from Endless Noise because not only can you wear it with a fabulous dress, but you can also wear it with a t-shirt, jeans and heels and look like a million bucks!

elleELLEeye: If you could design jewelry for any celebrity, who would it be? Why?
Iran Ortiz: Hmmmm...this is a hard one because I would love to have all celebrities wearing my jewelry. I would have to say Lady Gaga or Rihanna. They’re style is ridiculous and once they wear something it just starts flying off the shelves.

elleELLEeye: What is your favorite piece that you have designed thus far?
Iran Ortiz: My favorite piece is the Swarovski Duo Necklace set because it’s the piece that I enjoy making the most. Each stone is placed by hand. The concept is also great because it signifies friendship. It’s what I would like to call, “the grown up version of the grade school friendship necklaces.” I love how it looks on the people who wear it. It’s definitely a conversation starter, “Who has the other piece,” and it’s also available in a variety of colors.

elleELLEeye: Do you plan to design more men's jewelry?
Iran Ortiz: Yes, I do plan on designing more men’s jewelry. It’s actually in the works. Endless Noise Jewelry is a man magnet. I am speaking for myself and for others. They always have something to say to the women wearing Endless Noise. That was where the idea to make men pieces came from. I was wearing a piece and a dude asked me if he could try it on and Waaaah Laaaaaah!

elleELLEeye: Are your pieces "Recessionista" friendly?
Iran Ortiz: I do attempt to make my pieces recessionista friendly. One of my popular pieces, which is the Espressione Bracelet is $28.00. I try to make my pieces as cheap as possible. The Swarovski pieces are a bit expensive for someone affected by the recession. Totally understandable. I try to offer as many surprise sales as I can. For example, right now the Swarovski pieces are 50% off for a limited time only. Get yours today!

elleELLEeye: Have you faced any challenges while designing?
Iran Ortiz: There are always challenges, which is what makes this business interesting. One of my biggest challenges is trying to stay away from what other people are doing. The truth is that when you are being trendy you are most likely to come up with an idea that someone else is coming up with at the same time.

elleELLEeye: What separates Endless Noise NYC jewelry from the rest?
Iran Ortiz: It has a personal touch. I work on every piece myself so it feels like every piece has it’s own personality. Two different girls can have the same piece but it lives differently with each person.

elleELLEeye: What advice would you offer to aspiring fashion entrepreneurs?
Iran Ortiz: "Just do it" like Nike :o )

The Spring (which already feels like summer) is here; which calls for less clothing and a new wardrobe. But with less clothes to showoff what accessories can you use to showoff your outfit? A watch will do! Ladies, this will be the perfect "just because" gift for your friend or boyfriend. No matter who it is, there's one for everyone with the prices to match. Let's take a look at some watches from ...

The Neon Flux -

These watches represent those who love color and the flashier side of fashion. Even if you this person doesn't like to rock color, these watches will add that little bit of pop to their ensemble. *All under $100.

I'd Rather Have... -
