VMA 2010 Commentary

From the pre-show to the big opening act. It's what is talked about every year on the second week of September, the MTV Video Music Awards. Here's ♥ t i f f a n y's dish on what's going down from the White Carpet, to the stage.

Nicki Minaj was the topic most talked about as her haters, "Barbz" & "Kens" anticipated her performance during the VMA pre-show. If you saw it, you may have been just as confused as I was from Nicki's Judy Jetson look, to Will.i.Am's black face - literally. Another woman who is always talked about - Lady Gaga took home two VMAs before the show even started. But of course, what was talked about even more than her winnings was, her outfit. She wore an Alexander McQueen gown from his last collection and looked as normal as she has ever been.

The show opened up with Eminem & Rihanna and what I have to say about that is, the set of the show looked wonderful. Don't get me wrong, I love their music, but the performance wasn't anything to talk about, besides Rihanna's red hair; which we showed you in our last Haute or Hate It post. I'm excited to see how funny Chelsea Handler is...and this picture says it all (Chelsea as Lady Gaga). She was completely hilarious!!!

Kim Kardashian was introduced as a "fashion icon" which made me screw up my face; but she did look pretty. She introduced heartthrob, Justin Beiber. His performance was cool. He brought the young dancers out on stage and had the hair going as usual. He let us see him play the drums; which was excited as seeing someone play the drums. Needless to say, the kid has talent.

Usher performed "OMG", and for me it was a mix between J. Lo's "Waiting for Tonight" video and a B2K performance. There were plenty of LED lights/rays to go around, accompanied by some dancing. Will.i.Am was in the audience and the performance was alright. At this point I am waiting to be impressed...

Here's something to wake you up, Florence + The Machines! Although some were confused about who she was and why she was performing, I enjoyed it. She delivered the most interesting/best performance thus far. Amber Riley & the cast of "Glee" announced the Best Pop Video award. Amber looked fabulous! Lady Gaga took another award in her heavy gown that she couldn't even walk in, but she looked fab!

And kudos to Taylor Swift for making headlines again with her "diss record" performance to Kanye West. Too bad the performance was bad on the vocal end. But she looked nice and the visuals were on point.

Drake's performance with Mary J. Blige and Swizz Beatz is just what I needed! He looked sexy, yes, I'm talking about Drake LOL. His set was on point and he woke me up from the dreadful award show I've been watching for the past 90 minutes. Best performance goes to Drake thus far!

Columbian actress, Sofia Vergara announced the award for "Best Hip-Hop" video, in which Eminem took home. I'm not too sure if anyone understood what she was saying lol, but Eminem and Lady Gaga are racking up!

B.o.B., Bruno Mars, and Haley Williams ft. Paramore hit the stage next. Bruno sounded great (as usual), Haley looked dope, and Bobby Ray's energy was on point. A great performance! Paramore performed "Only Exception" and it was beautiful -definitely in my list of top performances! Singer, Robyn, had her 30 second spotlight (as did Travie McCoy & Jason Deluro) and I truly wished she would've gotten to do a full performance, she's so cool!

Justin Beiber won the award for Best New Artist. It just wasn't a winning night for Young Money! Welcome to MTV!

Linkin Park performed, but I wasn't feeling it too much. The lyrics were sang too harsh, and it didn't feel like the LP I knew from a few years back. They did their performance LA's Griffith Observatory.

And for the time almost everyone has been waiting for...Video of the Year (introduced by Cher - who had Lady Gaga in tears); went to...Lady Gaga for "Bad Romance". She definitely was the winner of the night!

And the 2nd most anticipated moment of the night, Kanye West's performance! K. West set off his performance with a white column, a beat machine, a mic, and a red suit (and red sneakers to match). Next he brought out the Clipse, ballerina dancers, and an autotune microphone. "Let's have a toast for the assh***s, have a toast for the jerkoffs, let's have a toast for the scumbags. Baby I got a plan, runaway as fast as you can." He left the audience chanting his name.

Overall, I'll rate the 2010 VMAs a 6.5/10. What did you think of the show? Who was your favorite performer? COMMENT!!!

Yo Fabba Fabba

Rapper Fabolous celebrates his son's birthday party that was themED after the hit children's show "Yo Gabba Gabba". Fab dressed up as DJ Lance Rock. It's so nice to see what fathers will do for their children!

Vanessa Simmons' New Do

Rev Run's oldest daughter changed up her hair, giving us this new look. Some are saying that it's a shorter do, but I can't really tell since it is styled and curled. How do you like it?

Lil' Wayne's Dental Downgrade

If you didn't already know, Weezy is set to go to prison. His date was pushed back due to his dental plans where he had to remove his decked out $150,000 diamond grills, and replace them with these veneers. Both the top and bottom are veneers, the top is just covered.

2010 Grammys Commentary + Winners

One of the biggest nights in music took place last night, the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, and let's just say that it was Ladies' Night. The biggest winners of the night were Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and the leader of the pact, Beyoncé - who made history by being the first to win six Grammys in one night. Check out the elleELLEeye commentary by ♥ t i f f a n y & DANiE, our favorite performance and the full list of the 2010 Grammy winners!

I was totally surprised that Lady Gaga opened the show with Elton John (and Elijah Kelley, commentator of the performance from the hit movie Hairspray), but I must say she put on a performance. The show continued with a comedic slot by Stephen Colbert who won a Grammy for Best Comedy Album.

"Song of the Year" went to the well deserved hard-working woman of show business, Beyoncé! I'll admit that I was a little disappointed that Bey didn't perform something else (considering I watch all of her performances and "If I Were A Boy" is old to me), but she delivered regardless. Did anyone peep Keri Hilson with her dead down while she was performing though? No comment...no Grammy =x

Green Day's performance was excellent!

Goldilocks herself, Taylor Swift, graced the stage and sang a total of three songs. The first song, she sang solo and remaining two songs she performed with country legend Stevie Nicks. She sounded pretty good, very mellow and chill, but I was looking forward to rocking out with her - which didn't happen...booo!

The "3D" Tribute to Michael Jackson was performed by Celine Dion, Usher, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Smokie Robinson.
I didn't have 3D glasses! If you watched this tribute with them, please let me know how it looked! There's no denying the talent these artist possess. I cant believe Michael's gone, but it was a little heart wrenching to hear his voice on the track as the artists sang with it. The tribute was dope.

I had 3D glasses, and it made no difference! If you think about it, it shouldn't have worked because it's really us (the people at home) watching someone else watch a 3D movie. I thought that the tribute was a bit creepy and that they could have done something else. I'm sure Michael would be flattered and taken back being honored, but if I was the King of Pop I would have wanted to see something else. I give that performance a thumbs down.

Prince and Paris Jackson once again showed their courage and spoke to the thousands of people in place of their late father Michael Jackson. What did you think about their short speeches?

I thought that Prince is very well-spoken and I appreciated Paris' little thank you. They are some brave kids.

Best Rap Collab: Rihanna and Jay-Z, "Run This Town". Their appearance with Juelz (Beyoncé's nephew) was the best part. The dapper little boy wore his tux with a fresh pair of Nike Dunks! When Rihanna picked him up and asked him if he had anything to say, he politely smiled and said "No, thanks". HOW CUTE! I AGREE!

Wyclef Jean stepped to the stage and reminded everyone of how strong the Haitian people are. I thought that was important because the news does portray some of the saddest images. That's a good take on it. I thought he looked a little too happy, but I see what you mean.

Pink's performance wasn't much different from that of the one she gave at the MTV VMAs. She did the whole gymnast/acrobatic thing, and though some were amazed, I was bored and confused at the part where she was dips in water and started spinning in the air. I would've been mad if I got wet!

The most random part of the night for me was when I missed the introduction to a performance. What performance? Jamie Foxx and T-Pain's "Blame It" with Doug E. Fresh. I thought it was so funny! Jamie is crazy.

Round of applause to Lil' Wayne, Eminem, and Drake! They graced the staged together and did a good job. Drake is growing as a performer, I actually enjoyed watching him.

The biggest awards of the night, Album of the Year, went to the American Sweetheart, Taylor Swift. She beat out Beyoncé, Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga and the Dave Matthews Band. Honestly, I wanted the B.E.P. to win, but I think all of those nominated deserved it.

CLICK HERE FOR THE COMPLETE LIST OF WINNERS

And my favorite performance was...Black Eyed Peas (who won three awards) doing "Imma Be" and "I Gotta Feeling". Happy Watching!

No matter who you are, rich, poor, popular, or socially disconnected, I'm sure you have been a victim to a bad trip, tumble or fall. The fall wasn't the bad part, it's the situation we're put in after we fall.

"I hope no one saw that! Ouch, that hurt. OMG I'm so embarrassed."

Don't worry, I've been there too. But compare your fall to someone who has hundreds of thousands of people watching their life on a daily basis...yes, the life of a celebrity. Take a look at some of Hollywood's stumbles, because it happens to the best of us.

Beats

In the attempt to write a post on these headphone with the infamous "b" on the side of them, and bash everyone wearing them as a fashion statement, I would've felt pretty dumb. Why? Because it looks like the headphones were intended to be just that!

Dr. Dre teamed up with Monster to create his line of headphones. He says that "People aren’t hearing all the music. Artists and producers work hard in the studio perfecting their sound. But people can’t really hear it with normal headphones. Most headphones can’t handle the bass, the detail, the dynamics. Bottom line, the music doesn’t move you. With Beats, people are going to hear what the artists hear, and listen to the music the way they should: the way I do."

Celebrities rocking beats

Soulja Boy Tellem, Teyana Taylor, Lady Gaga & Keri Hilson

Here are some Beat products (this may be a good gift idea for your significant other that may just be in love with music). Get you some beats!

Single Ladies

Two of music's biggest divas, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga, are joining forces for Beyoncé's upcoming single, "Video Phone". "On Oct. 7, Lady Gaga and Beyoncé (who both hold spots on the Billboard's Hot 100 chart [Lady Gaga at #6 for "Paparazzi" and Beyoncé at #12 for "Sweet Dreams"]) were working on the video together at a studio in NYC," an insider reveals exclusively to Life & Style.
"Everything on the set was being kept very hush-hush, and security was extremely tight."
Both Beyoncé, 28, and Lady Gaga, 23, are known for their showmanship and elaborate costumes, and this joint venture shouldn't disappoint. "In the video," says the insider, "Beyoncé wears a feathered dress. And of course Lady Gaga wears something wild. The fashion is sick and insane."

I cannot wait to see this, if they do choreography together I'm sure it will be sick, and I mean that both figuratively and literally!

Thanks Life & Style!

eyePreview: MTV Awards 2009 performers

The bar has been RAISED and the stakes are now even higher as the list of 2009 MTV VMA performers grows bigger with today's mega announcement that hip-hop mogul Jay-Z and Pop Art princess Lady Gaga will perform!

Jay-Z and Lady Gaga join the already-majah roster of 2009 MTV VMA performers: Taylor Swift, Green Day, Pink, and Muse.

Jay-Z appearances aren't ubiquitous happenings -- He's not exactly a hermit, but he's not the kind of guy to show up to the opening of a door and pimp himself out to anyone who'll listen. Why? BECAUSE HE'S JAY-Z. HE DOESN'T HAVE TO. To say that Jay-Z's 2009 VMA performance is going to be the stuff of pop culture legend is like saying Madonna's arms are only somewhat bananas.

Now speaking of bananas, Lady Gaga, who's up for a MIND-REELING nine VMAs, will be busy that night, to say the least. Gaga also said that she's "simply gutted to be both a performer and nominee at the 2009 VMAs. In fact, I'm so happy, I could die." Hopefully Lady Gaga was speaking figuratively because she's got a BIG show to put on that night. And after she shot fire out of her breasts at the Much Music Awards in Canada this past June, we expect very big things of her VMA performance! She'd better crawl out of the mouth of a live camel or something. (JK, PETA.)

Also, AWKWARD alert -- she's up against Beyonce (MRS. Jay-Z!) for nine VMAs. Wonder if this will be awkwardsville backstage that night.

ALSO, just added to the growing list of 2009 VMA presenters are Nelly Furtado, Leighton Meester and iCarly's Miranda Cosgrove, who is so teensy and adorable.

effFriday: Lady Gaga's effFashion Sense

23-year-old, Yonkers, NY native (Aaooowwww!), Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, better known by her stage name Lady Gaga has everyone talking! Not only about her music, but about her style as well. Gaga has been influenced by fashion and has been appreciated for her provocative sense of style and her influence on other celebrities. Gaga has stated that she is "very into fashion" and that it is "everything" to her. Her love of fashion came from her mother, who was "always very well kept and beautiful." Gaga stated:
"When I'm writing music, I'm thinking about the clothes I want to wear on stage.
It's all about everything altogether — performance art, pop performance art,
fashion. For me, it's everything coming together and being a real story that
will bring back the super-fan. I want to bring that back. I want the imagery to
be so strong that fans will want to eat and taste and lick every part of
us."

Gaga says that she channels Versace in everything she does, and considers Donatella Versace as her muse in many ways. Melissa Magsaysay of Los Angelas Times commented, "[Gaga's] aversion to wearing a top and bottom at the same time [...] swigging champagne and being fanned by oily men in Speedos [is] very Donatella-esque." Gaga has her own creative production team called the Haus of Gaga, which she handles personally. The team creates many of her clothes, stage props, and hairdos.

Towards the end of 2008, comparisons were made between the fashion sense of Gaga and American recording artist Christina Aguilera, noting similarities in their styling, hair, and make-up. Aguilera later claimed she was "completely unaware of [Gaga]" and "didn't know if it [was] a man or a woman." Afterward, Gaga released a statement in which she welcomed the comparisons due to the attention providing useful publicity. Gaga said, "She's such a huge star and if anything I should send her flowers, because a lot of people in America didn't know who I was until that whole thing happened. It really put me on the map in a way."

How do you feel about Gaga's fashion sense? Does she look like a effF O O L or is she effFASHIONeffFORWARD ?
