Passion Pain & Pleasure

Trey Songz's new album Passion, Pain, & Pleasure; dropped today and although we usually do the "eyeReview', we've decided to get a review from those that know him and his music best - his fans. So we've hit the Twitter Trending Topic (#passionpainpleasure) and clipped some of the thoughts from his trusty fans and tweeters. Everyone's opinion matters and we're here to make sure some of them count. I'll say that the album is a good R&B album (not that I would expect anything less from Trey), but the songs tend to blend; and can just sound like one long 56 minute song. It's proven that the man has the voice, the look, and the talent, but I'm ready for Trey to take it to another level. He can write a good song, and just stand there and look good, but every artist has to push themselves to another level of success. I think Trey is comfortable where he is as an artist and I haven't heard any growth from Ready to Passion Pain & Pleasure. I'm not saying that it's a bad album, but my favorite Trey album is his first, Gotta Make It. We need to get that vulnerability back, that hungry artist, or else we'll just end up with another R. Kelly. Anyway, let's get into these tweets! Let us know what you think about the album, which is in stores now!

@DayLonRayLe: @TreySongz ..... I am not disappointed at all with #passionpainpleasure .... I brought the deluxe album off of itunes! Great follow up!

@mrmixtapejdot: I don't think #passionpainpleasure is nowhere near as good as Ready, #noway

@Rob_French86: Shout out to the dude @TreySongz.... #passionpainpleasure is a definite must have for the collection...If u don't have it go get it asap

@Karamel_25: This cd is AMAZING!!! #passionpainpleasure @TreySongz

@SiMpLe_DiMpLEZ: Ok so just finished the #passionpainpleasure album....My thoughts: very commercial, no flow to the ordering of songs (ex:beg, climax, end). The lyrical content was NO WHERE NEAR the Ready album, i was definitely disappointed smh. Oh and "bottoms up" didn't belong on that album. It didn't fit in at all. That's prob why they threw it at the end.

@Mama2Dane: #passionpainpleasure is the BEST @TreySongz album to date! I'm telling' you...somebody gon' get the business to this one!

@SabrosaLTL: #passionpainpleasure album from start to finish is hot @treysongz did not disappoint don't believe me go get it and see!

Impossible Friendships

The Hardest thing I've ever had to do, was tell her that we could no longer be friends. It was too much for me; the emotional roller coaster, the daydreams and nightmares, thinking of something that I knew I could never have totally... Sure that night we spent together was amazing, and until this day I wish it never ended. Quite some time removed, "I wish we never did it," and I wish it never felt so good.

What am I to do? She has someone, and so do I. But what about what we felt, what we want? A wise old man told me that you can't dance to every song, but what about the ones that seem to be tailor-made for ME and HER. I'm so confused, but then again I'm not. My heart is telling me things that my mind knows cannot be. So, in the end I guess I must be a man about it and tell her that:

eyeWatch: Bruno + Songz

The official video for Bruno Mars' "Just The Way You Are", from the forthcoming Doo-Wops & Hooligans album dropping October 5th, is here. Mars is such a talent, and for some he is overrated, but I can never get tired of hearing his voice. From all of the features he's done, I'm glad that he finally has something to call his own. Trey Songz has also dropped a new video for his single "Can't Be Friends". His album Passion, Pain and Pleasure hits stores Tuesday, September 14th. The video is a bit lackluster, but for the ladies, I'm sure Trey sitting in a chair and with no shirt on is good enough. Ready to watch? Here you go - be sure to leave a comment on your thoughts!

BET Awards 2010 Commentary

Queen Latifah - the host - started this year’s BET award show off wonderfully with a comedic introduction and a “performance” to Drake’s "Over". She looked beautiful as usual and definitely kept my attention after the opening act. Let’s backtrack…Kayne West opened the show with his single “Power” from him upcoming album, Good A** Job. Kanye standing on top of a mountain with a mic & colossal chain wasn’t as interesting as I hoped that it would be. Next up was Usher, who performed a favorite of mine, “There Goes My Baby”. I felt his performance from the live band to the lighting and effects (except the vocals). I definitely think he set the bar for Trey Songz, but I think Trey's vocals will be on point. I LOVED Nicki Minaj's acceptance speech! She definitely kept it real and gave a true heartfelt speech; minus the bit of hood that was apparent at the end. T.I. was up next and he put on a show as usual with Travis Barker (who I love) as his drummer.

And the award for "Best Male Hip Hop Artist" goes to...who else? DRAKE! If you missed the announcement, you might've thought that the award was for best group. Young Money is coming to the stage old school passe style. Well deserved award for Drake, although not surprising. Although Queen Latifah's costumes got annoying very quick, little Gabby who came out to help announce Alicia Keys was amazing! Hopefully we hear more from her in the future. Alicia did do a good job. She was glowing and looked and sounded beautiful; baby bump and all. Speaking of baby bump (or lack there of), Keyshia Cole performed B.o.B's hit record "Airplanes II" featuring Haley Williams with Eminem. She definitely wasn't herself, and I mean that in the best way, because she sounded great! Until she started to over sing the song, but overall, good performance.

Monica was next up singing her single "Everything to Me". Then she brought out legend Denise Williams, who she sample the song from. The two went on to introduce the award for Best Collaboration; which went to Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys for "Empire State of Mind". Next on the stage was Diddy Dirty Money featuring T.I., Rick Ross, and Nicki Minaj. I can't front, that performance was all the way turned up! They killed, if you disregard the lip syncing.

Next up, Chris Brown with a Tribute to the late Michael Jackson. I missed the performance, but I did hear him and just glad that BET gave him a chance to hit the stage. He was probably overwhelmed by performing for the same people who lost respect for him last year after the infamous situation. I'm happy he received a standing ovation and was embraced. Hopefully he can come back full force, sooner than later. Thank Me Later, or now if you must...DRAKE hit the stage with a medley and was joined on stage by Young Jeezy (who looked crispy in his all white - the jacket was on point). They performed "Lost My Mind" (remix) and Drake was into his performance to say the lease. I was hoping he would perform "Light Up" and Jay would make a surprise appearance, but - that didn't happen.

And the award for "Best Male R&B Artist" goes to Mr. Trey Songz! He was up against some stiff competition; Chris Brown (who the crowd went wild for) and Usher to name a couple. His mother is beautiful and was so happy for him, as she should be. El Debarge followed and some may have said he danced more than he sang(and that the performance was random) - but it was a high energy performance...Gary Coleman was honored by Todd Bridges and Tyrese honor to Teddy Pendergrass by singing his classics. The tributes were kept alive by Kim Burrell, Karen Clark Shepard, Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, and Yolanda Adams with a tribute song to Haiti. John Legend was the Humanitarian Award recipient of the Night for his work in the US and Africa with the "Show Me" campaign; who provides clean water, nutrition, and education to help break the cycle of poverty. AWESOME ACCEPTANCE SPEECH!

In my opinion, Trey Songz performance was better than Usher's although he did go a little too in at the end. He paid homage to Prince with a little bit of classic "Purple Rain", overall, good job to Trey! The award for "Video of the Year" went to Beyoncé and Lady Gaga for "Video Phone", in which neither ladies were present LOL!

Now for that Prince tribute...It started off with words from Stevie Wonder, who "saw Prince dance" lol and began with a performance from Janelle Monae. She was extremely animated as usual; while performing "Crazy" and had Prince looking at her like...OKAY! Esperanda Spaldin was next followed by Alicia Keys and Patti LaBelle - who went IN! Chris Brown took home an award on behalf of his fans, the "Fandeominum" award.

And one of the last performances of the night: "My Chick Bad" by Ludacris featuring Nicki Minaj. Tommy Lee on drums was on Drums and then came DJ Khaled featuring the new dream team, T-Pain, Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Diddy for the "My Chick Bad" Remix followed by the "All I Do is Win remix". I LOVE LOVE LOVE that song! Great ending! I wish I was there, but that will soon come.

Some random things you may have seen in the audience of the show: Brandy looked great, until I saw her on stage. Lisa Raye was wearing white...surprised?, Tiny is now a blonde...again. Overall this was one of BET's best shows.

Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees of the night! What are/were your thoughts on the show?

eyeWatch: "Yo Side of the Bed"

It looks like Trigga took a more mature approach on his video for "Yo Side of the Bed"; off of his album Ready. The video features Keri Hilson as his leading lady and just by previewing the video, I knew that I would be in love. I love the storyline and how the roles have been reversed from the typical "guy leaves girl" home to take care of the kids and feeling lonely. The screenplay was written by Tremaine Neverson (Mr. Songz himself) and Bianca Mendez. I won't give too much more away, because I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Happy watching!

Songz Unplugged

Besides the fame, fortune & success, what do Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, and Jay-Z have in common? Their MTV Unplugged performances. New to that list is R&B sensation Trey Songz. I love the vibe of the MTV Unplugged specials and I think it's great that they are showing younger artists. I love the live bands and the strings showed out during Trey's set. I'll let you all see for yourselves. Happy watching!

Battle of the Sexy

Raymond vs. Trey

After the R&B veteran, Usher, released Confessions, I'm pretty sure we didn't think another R&B sensation would hit the scene and do it like he did...and then there was Trey. With his passionate voice and sexy songs, Trey Songz has the ladies in awe over hits like "Panty Droppa", "Neighbors Know My Name" and "Say Ahh".

But Usher is back with Raymond vs. Raymond; which may be suggesting that any name other than that is competition. But no matter who the artist is, for them to be successful, they must have that "it" factor. There are no limits on what that "it" can be, but one thing is clear, and that is that both Usher & Trey have "it"!

So ladies...the question is:

FYeye: Usher an R&B vet has dropped a hit after hit from his new album Raymond vs. Raymond in stores now! Here's Trey or Trigga covering the the May 2010 issue of VIBE magazine and his album Ready is in stores as well.

Graffiti

20-year-old heartthrob, Chris Brown, has been in the eye of the pubic since his debut in the music industry in 2005 as a young and talented artist and dancer. Recently he's been in headlines and on television screens worldwide for other reasons; but today, he will be on the charts, your favorite radio stations, and TV shows publicizing his new album, Graffiti!

I've listened to the album about five times today and he didn't let me down. Although I believe that his debut self-titled album is one of his best, you hear a different Chris Brown in Graffiti. It is hard listening to his lyrics without thinking, "Is he's talking about Rihanna?" but one thing that is admirable is the ability and willingness to have their personal experiences inspire their work.

Brown worked with Polow Da Don, Swizz Beatz, The Messengers and The Runners amongst others to produce the follow-up to Exclusive. The album was preceded by the single "I Can Transform Ya"; which is definitely one of my favorite records on the album. Brown stated,
"I wanted to change it up and really be different. Like my style nowadays, I don't try to be typical urban. I want to be like how Prince and Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder were. They can cross over to any genre of music."
And he did just that with the eclectic arrangement on the album. I'm sure he'll appear on Billboard's Pop, R&B, and Dance charts.

My favorite records are: "Lucky Me"; in which Chris expresses his gratitude and appreciation for what he has although he's had his downfalls in life and his career. I'm loving the 80s punk rock feel on the song "Pass Out", and I love the overall feel of "Girlfriend". Brown got his sexy on with R&B sensation Trey Songz on "Wait", and although I dislike the connotation between the song and his relationship with Rihanna, I love "Crawl".

Chris Brown definitely delivered and hopefully the public will be able to view him as the human being he is and accept that everyone makes mistakes. Good job Chris! Make sure you cop your copy of Graffiti!

Will you be supporting Chris Brown? What did you think of the album?

Yes, Trey Songz's "Invented Sex" video is here: I know the ladies (and some of you gentlemen) have been anticipating it. eyeReview: Trey Songz "Ready"

If you happened to not know that Trey Songz's new album Ready is now available on iTunes and in stores tomorrow, you must not have Twitter! Trey has been promoting his album hard body on Twitter and the fans love it. The album has 17 tracks and features "Successful" with Drake, "LOL :)" ft. SouljaboyTelleEm and Gucci Mane, "I Need A Girl", and a couple of tracks off of his Anticipation mixtape ("Yo Side of the Bed" and "I Invented Sex ft. Drake").

I was surprised that he actually put tracks from his mixtape on the album, but hey! For me the album wasn't as great that I expected it to be. I mean it's not bad at all, but I just think expected it to be this phenomenal collection of music from the way people were talking. From the start of the album on the "Panty Droppin" intro, I immediately thought of R. Kelly. That comparison will always be there no matter what. He sounds like him and it's clear that they are both two sexual beings and choose to show that in their music.

The sound on the album did remain consistent on the album, as far as his tonality and musicality goes. It's a very R&B Trey album to say the least, and I would say that it's for more of a female audience, but I wouldn't mind seeing the fellas using the album to get in "the mood". My favorite tracks would have to be "Jupiter Love", "Black Roses" which has a more edgy sound, and "Love Lost" which comes off sounding like Michael Jackson's "Human Nature" as far as the instrumental goes.

Let's make it clear, I'm not hating on the album, I'm just saying that six of the tracks were released/leaked before the album actually came out and two are interludes which leaves us with nine "new" songs to listen to. That isn't bad at all, but I'm just saying LOL. I would give the album a B or 4/5 stars, see it's not that bad.

Well happy listening, go cop that Trey Songz "Ready" album like right now! Yea that's my promo right there. Here's some of his very own promotion via his Twitter page:

eyeWatch: Drake ft. Trey Songz "Successful"

Here is the official music video for Drake and Trey Songz's "Successful", directed by Jake Davis. The song is featured on Trey Songz new album "READY", which is in stores now. The song is also featured on Drake's "So Far Gone" mixtape available now for free download, the EP version will be sold in stores September 15th, 2009.

The video was shot in Toronto, Canada and is just as laid back as the song. It is definitely an upgrade from the "Best I Ever Had" video. For the most part the video is fairly dark and mostly uses the city lights as the backdrop. At the end of the video there's a quote from President Obama:
"Making your mark on the world is hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it. But it's not. It takes patience, it takes commitment, and it comes with plenty of failure along the way. The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won't. it's whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere."
