March On Your Health!

Did you know March is not only dedicated to celebrating women, but also to several causes including education, the kidneys, the eyes, nutrition, and the American Red Cross? Throughout the month, I will take some time to highlight each of them. At the top of the roster:

National Kidney Month
At the age of 14, my cousin’s life changed when she found out she had kidney failure. She had a transplant not too long after. However, the new organ would not be enough to save her, and at 19, she passed away.
My family and I had no real knowledge about the kidneys, or the tremendous affect it has on the body. Had we known her status when she was younger, or that she may be at risk, her life may have been different.

Today, organizations such as the National Kidney Foundation strive to prevent kidney and urinary tract diseases, improve the health of people who have been affected by the disease, and increase the availability of all organs to receive a transplant.

One in nine Americans has chronic kidney disease, and spokespeople for this foundation such as comedian George Lopez, encourage families to educate themselves on kidney health.

Like many organizations, the acclaimed charity also holds a walk to raise funds for research, and also allows you to donate.

Screen check: Are you taking care of your kidneys?
Do you drink plenty of water?
Do you eat little animal protein?
Do you eat plenty of fruits such as cranberries, pomegranates, blackcurrants, and blueberries?
Do you drink pure grape juice or dandelion tea?
Do you eat ginger?

You might want to try to if you answered no to most, or all of these questions.

The Little Things We Learn in Life

If you haven't met Tha Lady Blogga (Tamika Frye), then you must not be into the social media scene. She's an entertainment blogger, and has now ventured out to become the author of the three book series entitled, “The Little Things We Learn In Life”. Book one, “Matters of the Heart", takes the reader on a myriad of journeys through various relationships. Relationships that are affected by some of the same things that are dealt with in real life. Mistresses, occupations, Social Networking; but it also gives the other side: Love, Happiness, Togetherness.

The objective behind the book is to help the reader see beyond their own situation. Reading these stories gives insight, direction and knowledge beyond what might already be known. Aside from entertaining, the stories are gritty, real and some of the readers may closely relate. I personally cannot wait to purchase and read my copy to tell you all about it. You can expect books 2 & 3 “the Grind” and “the Fam” up next, but for now, spread the word that "Matters of the Heart" is currently available for purchase!  Make sure you support and order your copy today. Happy Reading!

What's the Word?

How many of you like to be spoiled? Do you like to make sure you're well-groomed? If so, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. We enjoy and can use a little cosseting once in a while. What does that mean, you're wondering...

cosset
\ KOSS-it \ , transitive verb;
To treat as a pet; to treat with excessive indulgence; to pamper.

noun:
A pet, especially a pet lamb.

Warning: if you're called a cosset, you should take offense to it. But if someone wants to cosset you, take that offer before it's no longer available.

Happy National Women's History Month

Our History is Our Strength

Our shared history unites families, communities, and nations. Although women’s history is intertwined with the history shared with men, several factors - social, religious, economic, and biological - have worked to create a unique sphere of women's history.

Just in case you didn't know that March was National Women's History Month, now you know! elleELLEeye will be sharing posts on some phenomenal women that have gone without recognition, along with those who have made a tremendous impact in our history.

The stories of women’s achievements are integral to the fabric our history. Learning about women’s tenacity, courage, and creativity throughout the centuries is a tremendous source of strength.
Until relatively recently, this sphere of women's history was overlooked and undervalued. Women’s achievements were often distorted, disdained, and denied. But, knowing women’s stories provides essential role models for everyone. And role models are genuinely needed to face the extraordinary changes and unrelenting challenges of the 21st century.

Forward Progression

Success is in reach. Whoever said the words "light at the end of the tunnel", said it best. For quite some time it seemed as though every room I went into was dark, light only shining on others and leaving me in a dim existence. At times the only thing that kept me hopeful was the care and concern from people whom took the time to reassure me that everyone goes through phases.

Greatness is the result of struggle and perseverance. I feel alive again. I feel capable, willing, and able. I have come to realize that all three of those must line up in order for me to reach the places I would like to go, and be able to bring along the few who care to join. I am overwhelmed everyday by reverence.
I remember a time when that wasn't so - when I was so far gone that opposite wasn't attractive and right wasn't a consideration; not too many things were. Narrow-minded, ever thought of what that means? I could hit you with websters depiction, but I can simplify it by letting you know that I was the epitome of that.

No longer. A new day is upon us. Watch me progress.
