Giving Back Makes a Difference

It warms a true sports fans heart when their team of choice, or athlete, feels compelled to acknowledge their debt to the fans. Without the fans, sports would be nothing. Recently, the Philadelphia Eagles did their part in giving back to the community which supports them; more specifically, a child in need. This child, Nadin Khoury, of Pennsylvania, had been going through a tumultous time at school as a result of hazing and bullying at the hands of his peers.

On January 11th, Nadin was the victim of being drug through the snow by seven other teenage boys, and afterwards hung in a nearby tree. As Nadin hollered in anguish one of the culprates felt the need to video-record his horror. When authorities responded, arresting the young men, they showed Nadin and his family the recording with Nadin responding, "I was trying to escape and to get away from them. For the first two days after my body still hurt. But after that I just got mad everytime I think about it" (Courtesy of the Daily News).

The story was picked up by ABC News and local media, prompting arguably the surprise of young Nadin's life. He was a guest on The View, where Nadin informed the women that he wants to offer encouragement to other kids who are victims of bullying. At the end of the interview DeSean Jackson, Todd Herremans, and Jamal Jackson made a special appearance bringing Nadin a special gift.

Dukes Reigns Supreme BUT...

If you're NCAA College Basketball fan, I'm sure you know what went down at last night's Duke v. Butler game. Butler University lost the NCAA national championship basketball game Monday night, but the small, private university nestled on the city’s near-north side has won a load of publicity.

“It’s really been unbelievable,” said Butler President Bobby Fong. “I’m not sure anyone could have predicted this.” Butler’s Gordon Hayward had time to get off a last-second shot at the end of the game, but not enough to make it.

As a result of its basketball team’s success, Butler landed on the front page of USA Today twice, and was featured in The New York Times and Wall Street Journal as well as CNN, ESPN, CBS and ABC in the last 10 days.

Fong intends to commission a study of how much that media exposure is worth to the university, and hopes to have that data later this spring or summer.

Butler’s own Web sites have been overloaded at times since the team stormed through the Sweet 16, the Elite Eight and into the Final Four of the NCAA’s 65-team men's tournament.

The Butler.edu site even crashed for a while after the Bulldogs beat Kansas State University to qualify for the Final Four at Lucas Oil Stadium, said Scott Kincaid, Butler's chief information officer.

The school's main Web site, which averages about 6,000 visits daily, registered a record 137,000 visits on March 27, the day Butler beat Kansas State. On April 3, the day Butler beat Michigan State, the site scored more than 103,000 visits.

On Monday, traffic was way up again, registering 131,200 visits. Continue Reading...

Super Bowl XLIV + Commercials

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2010 SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS, THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS!

For the first time in NFL history the New Orleans Saints have won their first Super Bowl. I'm sure that this is an amazing time for the Saints, but more so for the state of New Orleans. If you didn't get a chance to watch the game, you missed one of the biggest plays of the game; the Tracy Porter intersection on behalf of Manning. Happy watching!

Another great part of the Super Bowl is the million dollar ads that air. Here are some of my favorites...
