eyeCare: MS Charity

There comes a time in everyone's life where things change completely.  Just ask rapper Nixon Nyce, who has recently been affected by the disease Multiple Sclerosis (MS). When life throws us off for a second, we have a choice whether we'll let our circumstances control us, or if we're control them.

Nixon took it upon himself to make a difference. Not only is he looking to change his life, but the life of others affected by MS.  Do you have a favorite rap artist? Well we need you to go onto Twitter and make them, and all of your followers, aware of the charity project Nixon has taken on. Not often will anyone have a charity event where 100% of the proceeds benefit the organization, but Nixon is serious about raising money and giving it directly to the cause at hand; the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Watch the video below to see Nizon's personal testimony, and what you need to do to help. Happy watching!

Mixtape Madness: Nixon Nyce, Eric Sosa,OXYMORRONS

Yes, we've been M.I.A., but that hasn't stopped some of the finest unsigned artists from putting out new work. We have three mixtapes for you to add to your eyePods.

First up, Nixon Nyce brought in the new year by giving us his Sooner Than Later project. The tape is hosted by Akon's DJ Benny-D, and with over 18 tracks, you'll definitely find something that interests you. "Love You Pt. 2" is by far, my favorite track, and if you're a sucker for a rap ballad, you'll love it too. Be sure to Download Sooner Than Later. You can also follow the life of this unsigned artist at http://www.nixonnyce.com/!

On January 25th, some of our eyes were in the building at Greenhouse NYC to witness the celebration of Eric Sosa's mixtape release; Rhyme & Noodles: No Artificial Flavoring Vol. 2. The Queens rapper shut the house down with live performances accompanies by a live band. The event was sponsored by Reco Jeans and guests received gift bags filled with the Sos goodies. If you missed the event, no worries, the music will make up for it. Download Rhyme & Noodles: No Artificial Flavoring Vol. 2, and visit http://www.ericsosa.com/!

Last, but not least, the OXYMORRONS! These guys are full of energy and their new mixtape 2 Tone Denim is no different. If you've never been to an Oxy show, eyeHighly recommend it! The creativity on these tracks is endless! My favorites are "Clowin", "Sorry" and "Freight Train Graffiti". Download the 2 Tone Denim mixtape now, it will not disappoint! eyeAsk: How Do You Define Change?

[[to become different, to become altered or modified, the substitution of one thing for another, to transform or convert, a balance of money that is returned when the sum tendered in payment is larger than the sum due, to give and take reciprocally]]

C H A N G E

I hear it often, that the only thing that is constant is change. It's true. Things are constantly changing; the way we sleep, the way we treat others, the things we believe in, the questions we ask, the answers we receive...nothing on this earth is the same everyday.

"People change, it's inevitable. Whether they're changing for better or worse is not for you to decide. Change is growth." Words said by yours truly and although it was a random thought, it provoked a thought from one of our followers on Twitter: "...Or the reverse of growth. I may grow from it, but what about the one who choose to make it a bad situation?" - @NixonNyce

Is there a reverse? Even if you change and regress into your old ways, your situation will still be different due to what you have learned from your previous encounters. You may get into a bad situation, but you'll learn from it and grow. There are so many different directions you can take on this topic, but one that stuck with me most was from Lauryn Hill on her MTV Unplugged 2.0 CD:

"And as I grow, you’re going to meet me a little bit more. You’re gonna be exposed to the real me a little bit more. I can tell you I had to reintroduce myself to everybody I know. My mother my father. Listen, y’all never knew me. I want to introduce you to me. I’m just getting to know me. And you know what, anything that’s not growing is dead, so we better be changing. You know, people would say to me, they would hold me hostage. And they, seriously, emotionally hostage, and they’d say, Uh, she’s changing. The money’s changing her. And I’d say Listen, the money’s not changing me, God’s changing me. I’m changing, because that’s a natural part of life. We’re all supposed to change. Who wakes up and is the same way tomorrow and the day after that? Nobody is. Let the experience teach you and be real, man. And, um..there’s gonna be warfare involved. Because there’s some people who prefer deceptions, see…"- Lauryn Hill

eyePOD: unTHINKABLE

Without a shadow of a doubt one of the best songs on Alicia Keys' latest album, The Element of Freedom is "Unthinkable" featuring Drake. The vocals are so soothing and the intrumental arrangement in the chorus is on point. This is definitely one of my favorite songs hence it being on our eyePod. So check it out, and while you're at it, check out Nixon Nyce's version of "Unthinkable" off of his upcoming mixtape Useless Love Songs due to drop on Valentine's Day.

What do you think of Nixon Nyce's version of "Unthinkable"? COMMENT!

I Can Only Be Me

Boston bound rapper Nixon Nyce released his mixtape I Can Only Be Me hosted by DJ Whoo Kid yesterday, October 12th. Though he's not the best rapper I've ever heard, I do see a lot of potential in his work. With the development of tracks like "We Like To Party" and "Sky High", his music can definitely be mainstream. I admire the fact the his mixtape was hosted by DJ Whoo Kid, but honestly, I think he could've done without him. The beats on the mixtape are hard, and if nothing else, I would like to see Nixon Nyce work a little bit more on his lyrical content.

The mixtape did have it's ups and downs, but overall I think that Nixon went harder on the second half of it. Some tracks that I enjoyed were "I'm A Monster", mainly because I felt like his flow had some umph behind it and the hook was tight. I was also feeling "Boy Meets Girl" and "Done Deal". It was clever on his part to end the mixtape with "Done Deal" considering the title and the conclusion of the mixtape. So without further ado, I will rate I Can Only Be Me a 6/10. I look forward to hearing more from Nixon Nyce. If you want to hear the mixtape for yourself, you can download it below. Happy listening.
