Favorite VMA Performances

The Video music awards took place this Sunday (Sept. 13th), and although the performances weren't the best this year, there were a few that I wouldn't mind seeing again. The show was quite lackluster until Drake hit the stage and for me that was where the show picked up. Check out my favorite performances and let me know what yours were. If you happened to miss the VMAs and need a recap, you can be sure to check out my commentary post HERE. Happy watching!

My Life: As I Am

The Home Shopping Network has met its fastest seller and most popular to date, Mary J. Blige. Congrats are in order this past weekend after Mary debuted her fragrance My Life on HSN; selling 50,000 bottles. In all she grossed $2.7 million, $1 of which from each bottle sold was donated to her foundation - FFAWN (Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now).

This is big business. Doesn't it feel good to see our own do good? Especially when you've seemingly been along for the entire ride. We've seen her ups, we've seen her downs, we've seen her perseverance and redemption. Although the majority of her music was aimed at the upliftment of the female gender, I know art when I hear it and jewels when they're dropped. I am a Mary fan, and have no shame standing up for it. This woman has given us good music while letting us share - Her Life.

Queen of the Campus

The queen of Hip-Hop and R&B, Mary J. Blige, has announced that she will be pursing her Bachelor degree at Howard University in Washington D.C. The 39-year-old superstar will be a part of Class of 2014 and although no information on what the singer's major will be has been released, it's inspiring to see someone of her stature going back to accomplish this goal after achieving so much success.

Mary has always displayed hint of insecurity when the topic of school was talked about. It's clear that this issue was strong enough for her to want to take it on full speed.

I'm happy for her and hope to see her graduate. I wonder if she will pledge or join any clubs on campus. That would be fun to see as well. This is just another example that proves it's never too late to achieve your goals.
