eyeLike: Rapping Paper

Just the other day, I was working on a task and someone asked me if I was done wrapping. I mistakenly assumed that they were asking me if I was done [with] rapping and replied, "I'll never stop rapping." Funny thing is, I was actually wrapping things up when they said this. Maybe you had to be there to find that funny, but I'm sure Si Hill would've gotten the joke. Who's Si Hill? The creator of Rapping Paper.

In 2006, Hill said "I thought that if I were to drop the 'w' you'd have Rapping Paper featuring rap lyrics." How clever? I'm a little upset that I didn't think of this idea, but I give props to him. Although Hill only has a couple of songs, once licensing issues are worked out with record companies, I'm sure the Rapping Paper craze will be a huge hit!

eyeAsk: What does OK really stand for?

I'm in school, writing a paper, and I was about to write "ok" but then I couldn't because "ok" is not a word. We use it all the time, but what the heck does it mean and where does it come from? So i took a little break from my schoolwork and googled it. Its actually pretty interesting so ill share it with all the knowledge seekers.

"The letters,OK, stand for "oll korrect." They're the result of a fad for comical abbreviations that flourished in the late 1830s and 1840s. Read buttressed his arguments with hundreds of citations from newspapers and other documents of the period. As far as I know his work has never been successfully challenged.

The abbreviation fad began in Boston in the summer of 1838 and spread to New York and New Orleans in 1839. The Boston newspapers began referring satirically to the local swells as OFM, "our first men," and used expressions like NG, "no go," GT, "gone to Texas," and SP, "small potatoes."

Many of the abbreviated expressions were exaggerated misspellings, a stock in trade of the humorists of the day. One predecessor of OK was OW, "oll wright," and there was also KY, "know yuse," KG, "know go," and NS, "nuff said."

Most of these acronyms enjoyed only a brief popularity. But OK was an exception, no doubt because it came in so handy. It first found its way into print in Boston in March of 1839 and soon became widespread among the hipper element."

Pretty cool huh? this is kinda like our internet lingo way back in the day! There's more to this article than just this little blurb, so read on at TheStraightDope.com

eyePoll: Nicknames

The results are in! We asked our readers, "Do you mind being given a nickname by someone you've only known for a short period of time?" and as you can see above, and 55% of you are cool with it. I am personally a part of the 45% who prefers to be called by my full name, unless we're cool like that.

Tiff, Tiffy, T, T.I., Tiffy-Wiffy, - some of the nicknames (relating to my real name) that I have been called within my lifetime. Do I mind it, yes and no. If I know you, I'm fine with nicknames, but when I just meet a person and introduce myself by my full name, I do that for a reason. Some people just get too comfortable in calling me Tiff too soon. It's not a big deal, but it bothers me.

Where did you place your vote? What do you think about the topic?

T2R: BiMusical!

As I was cleaning up today I was singing Music Is My Hot Hot by CSS, you know the song that goes "music is my boyfriend, music is my girlfriend"...Well anyways, as I was singing that I stopped and started to wonder if music was a person, would it be a male or a female? I mean there's obviously no right or wrong answer to this question but I'm interested in seeing what people have to say about this. And when I say music I mean like all music not just R&B, so your answer has to be your overall view of music, no matter how complex it might be.

If I had to choose, I would say that music is a male. It makes us happy, sad, laugh, cry, wanna fight, hyped up, feel like we're in Heaven, make us want to wish someone to hell, etc. I think you catch my drift here. Of course I think that some aspects of it are more feminine, so I would then say music is a gay male, but that would be too extreme, so then I would say it's a bisexual male [lol]. Okay I'm going to stop before I really start to make no sense at all. But maybe I'll ask the question again some time in the future looking for a more specific answer.

What's your opinion? If music had to be a gender, would it be a male or female? COMMENT!

eyeAsk: What Makes You Smile?

No one is completely sure of the number of times one might smile in their lifetime, but I'm sure everyone has experienced at least one. But what caused that smile? Was it after your very first kiss? Maybe you were just looking into the eyes of the one you love? Or maybe it was the relief after your younger sibling finally got the answer correct after you teaching them thier times tables for hours.

Louboutin Barbie

Mattel, the maker of Barbie, has partnered with Christian Louboutin for a multifaceted program under which the shoe designer will serve as a yearlong godfather to Barbie. He won't just rethink her fashion wardrobe and physical attributes, but also art directing her in different lifelike situations.

"Barbie has a long history of working with various designers and artists who use Barbie as a muse," said Stephanie Cota, senior vice president of marketing of Barbie brands at Mattel. "It was a natural for Barbie, not only with her fashion heritage, but also because of her passion for shoes. She has a billion shoes and we needed to do something special for her shoe collection."

Louboutin knew there were certain changes he wanted to make to his three customized dolls, which are inspired by Nefertiti and Marilyn Monroe.

I personally love Louboutin (who you can see in each one of the photos) for his creative genius behind his shoe and his whimsey personality that is well displayed in these photos and on his website.

Ring Finger

Girls grew up knowing the rule...don't put rings on your "ring finger" because then you'll be cursed from getting married. Sounds pretty foolish and superstitious to say the least, but there are many other things that come to mind when I think of this infamous "ring finger". I've heard the superstitious plea before and I've even seen girls where and abstinence/purity ring (which is a pledge to God that you will not have sex before marriage). All of this is nice, but why is the fourth finger from the thumb the ring finger?

I watched a video today and it was interesting and pretty cool at the same time; and after doing some research, I found out some more information on the ring finger:

I've heard this one before: According to tradition in some countries (derived from Roman belief), the wedding ring is worn on the left ring finger because the vein in the left ring finger, referred to as the vena amoris was believed to be directly connected to the heart, a symbol of love, the left side being probably since the heart is on the left side of the body.

Blessing the wedding ring and putting it on the bride's finger dates from the 11th century. In medieval Europe, the Christian wedding ceremony placed the ring in sequence on the index, middle, and ring fingers of the left hand, representing the trinity; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit respectively.

Here is a video stating why the Chinese believe that "The wedding ring is worn on the fourth finger".

Active Furniture

Tired of your lamp not falling down when you want to use it? Do you want to chase your refrigerator around just to open it? How about using a fan that you have to blow into in order for it to blow wind back at you?

These all sound like some pretty dumb ideas huh? Well to you, yes...but to Spanish designers Virginia Pol, Ferran Lajara and Cristina Guardiola, using counter-intuitive design as an antidote to our increasingly sedentary lives is cool!

These three designers created a project called "Active Furniture", in which The three objects - a floor lamp, a desk and a wall hanger - each require a level of exertion on the user's part to function. The floor lamp must be held upright, both to illuminate the bulb and keep the lamp vertical. Drawers on the opposing side of the desk force the user to walk around front to access them. The wall hanger enlists climbing holds to reach a too-high coat hanger.

I thought it was pretty dumb the first time around, but now it is a Cool Hunt! Although I wouldn't want to hold a lamp just to use it, I wouldn't mind the drawers.

What do you think of this innovation?

I'M JuST NOT INTERESTED

OK, so I know you've all been in that situation where you're friends with someone

that’s into you, but you're not into them the same way.

Well here are some helpful ways to get out of it while keeping your dignity ;)

LIE LIE LIE!
Nothing hurts more than the truth, so saying things like “It’s not you, it’s me” and “Maybe in the future” are great ways to end something. Also the classic “I’m still not over my ex” is a great one, if the break up occurred in the last few months. Be creative, I’m sure you can come up with some sure-fire deal breakers if you try.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF MODERN TECHNOLOGY
Instant messengers, text messages and E-mails were created for a reason so use them! Feel free to lie in the message, but there’s something about being in front of a screen that gives that extra boost of confidence to say all those things you might forget in person.

START A FIGHT
Guys are guilty of this one so its time to turn the tables. Start it over something small (the dumber, the better); then when the argument is over, explain how important the issue is to you and you can’t live with someone who feels differently. Need any suggestions on argument ideas? Ask me, I have an archive full of them.

SET HIM/HER UP…
with one of your friends. Any friend will do as long as the dork’s out of your hands! You won’t tragically break his/her heart because they’ll think you’re looking out for them...A win/win situation!

Ok so clearly my ideas are not the best ones for letting someone down. The truth is “honesty is the best policy”. Just be real, upfront and don’t lead him/her on. You’ll feel better in the end, and you won't put yourself in a totally sticky situation when the other person's feelings start to deepen.

Deuces,

DANiE

Let's Get Naked!

Ok, so im watchin and she's talking about this photographer named Zach Hyman. He's had some buzz about him over the last few months and its because of his unique, illegal form of photography.

What would you do if you were riding on the L train and a woman began taking pictures while standing near the pole? Probably nothing right? NOW, what if this woman takes
her dress off and continues to pose for the camera? I'm sure things would be a little different then, but this is exactly what happened in NYC; where Zach conducted a nude photoshoot on the train!

Zach has photographed in a number of other locations including a church, 42nd street and even a carnival. You can see more pics at his
official website, but I must warn you, the pictures are not censored, or as he would call it "Decent Exposure".

When confronted by security, Zach defended himself by making references to naked statues, then asking what was wrong with the naked model.

This is one carnival I will NOT be attending

Chocolate on Times Square?!
