Thank You Now

There's no doubt about it that Drake has his fans to thank for his outstanding first week record sales. The 23-year-old rapper pushed more than 464,000 units on his first album Thank Me Later, landing himself at #1 on the Billboard charts for the Most First Week Sales for a Debut Album. Many were surprised that the album did that much, while others expected that Drake would go platinum in his first week. I'm not surprised at the sales, and wouldn't have been anymore surprised if he happened to go over 500k (he's platinum in Canada already).

Some fans were disappointed by the album, and though I see where they're coming from, it's only because most of the record was leaked prior to the official release date. I believe that he earned this recognition and to do the numbers he did.
He's been giving away free music since 2005, and he's definitely grown as an artist, and has made an even bigger name for himself with endorsements and the big fish of the industry. Now he can thank his true fans who were rocking with him since the Degrassi freestyles, who were there from mixtape #1 Room For Improvement , and the recent ones who wouldn't believe the hype until he became the hype. But truth be told, without the fans, and the cynics, there would be no Drake.

eyeWatch: Drake Interview

Aubrey "Drake" Graham gets interviewed by Darius Brown from ABC News and speaks on various topics from starting off on "Degrassi: The Next Generation" to how he met Lil Wayne and his links to Rihanna.

It seems like everything is coming up roses for Drizzy, but that wasn’t always the case. Speaking with ABC News, he revealed he suffered some struggles in his childhood. “I was actually hurt by a lot of the things that happened throughout the course of my life,” Drake told ABC’s Darius Brown. “I had to become a man very quickly and be the backbone for a woman who I love with all my heart, my mother.”

Although he was a working actor since the age of 14 as a cast member of the popular Canadian-based teen drama Degrassi: The Next Generation, he would often travel back and forth between Toronto and Memphis, Tennessee to see his father, who split from his mother at a very young age.

He essentially lived in two different worlds; he lived in a very upper-class part of Toronto, and, when in Memphis, was told he was “the furthest thing from hood.” But Drake says image-conscious rap fans can still relate to him because of his experiences. “I saw my dad get arrested by like a swat team at the border for trying to crossover.” He added, “I’ve seen things that didn’t make me happy. They were character building. That’s why I think people in the hood can still connect with what I’m saying even though I’m not saying ‘yeah I got crack in my pocket’ ’cause that wasn’t my struggle necessarily, [but] I speak from a place that’s just human emotion.” Here is the video of the interview:

The Real LC

No, not Lauren Conrad from MTV's The Hills, Miss Lauren Collins who plays Paige Michalchuk on The N's Degrassi: The Next Generation. The 22-year-old Canadian actress has had a eight year run on the show; in addition to her co-star performance in the movie Take the Lead alongside Antonio Bandaras.

Collin's character, Paige, is a type A personality female who has every intention of being "that girl" in her school. Over the years we see her character evolve from being the popular, stuck up cheerleader with the boyfriend, best friend, and the attitude to match, blossom into a young woman who was faced with date rape, dealing with the stress and anxiety of being a college student, to exploring her sexuality with fellow costar Deanna Casaluce who plays Alex Nunez.

The show covers almost everything you can come imagine: abortion, rape, drugs, homosexuality, and all that other stuff that comes along with being a teenager.

Watch what this season has in store for Paige in the new season; which premieres Friday, July 3rd @ 8pm.
